Yoshi's Eggs, also formatted as Yoshi's eggs, Yoshi Eggs, or Yoshi eggs, are dotted eggs associated with Yoshis, who either lay them or create them through other means, such as by hitting ? Blocks or Egg Blocks, which can give them up to six eggs, the maximum number in most games. In several games, particularly in the Yoshi's Island series, Yoshis are capable of laying eggs after eating enemies, and they can then use the eggs as throwing projectiles. Otherwise, an egg may contain items or a Yoshi, either fully grown or in baby form. Though the basic white egg with green dots is the most common design throughout the Super Mario franchise, the body and dots can be a variety of colors, depending on either the Yoshi that laid the egg or the egg's contents or properties. The eggs themselves can vary in size from smaller than a Yoshi to bigger than even Bowser. A Yoshi's Egg is often used as Yoshi's emblem in various games, and Yoshi has various abilities that make use of the eggs.

Yoshi Eggs first appear in Super Mario World; when Mario or Luigi finds one, a Yoshi hatches from it, allowing Mario and Luigi to ride it. If Mario or Luigi finds another egg while a Yoshi is nearby, a 1-Up Mushroom will emerge instead. According to the story, Bowser trapped all the Yoshis in eggs.

Mario rescues an egg from each Castle he clears, but these eggs do not hatch until the end of the game. These eggs are all yellow-spotted in the original game, but the Baby Yoshis that hatch during the ending cutscenes are various colors; in the Game Boy Advance version, the spots on the eggs now match the color of the Yoshis that hatch from them.

There are also multicolored eggs that appear outside item boxes in the Star World levels. Approaching one of these will cause it to hatch into a baby Yoshi, with its color matching the color of the egg. In Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, the Bros. can find an egg of any color in a ? Block after finding the corresponding Yoshi in Star World and feeding it enough enemies or objects to grow it to maturity, though which egg will spawn is dependent on the Bros.' current form. The possible outcomes are as follows; forms written in italics will always spawn that particular Yoshi, assuming it has already been found and fed in Star World, whereas forms not written in italics will randomly spawn a Yoshi among those which have already been unlocked:

• Green Yoshi for Small Mario, Super Mario, Fire Mario (if Red Yoshi has not been found and fed yet), and Caped Mario (if Blue Yoshi has not been found and fed yet).
• Yellow Yoshi for Small Mario, Super Mario, Fire Mario (if Red Yoshi has not been found and fed yet), and Caped Mario (if Blue Yoshi has not been found and fed yet).
• Red Yoshi for Small Mario, Super Mario, Fire Mario, and Caped Mario (if Blue Yoshi has not been found and fed yet).
• Blue Yoshi for Small Mario, Super Mario, Fire Mario (if Red Yoshi has not been found and fed yet) and Caped Mario.

In addition, Yoshis can lay eggs after eating berries. A Super Mushroom will hatch from the egg if ten red berries are eaten. In the GBA port, the type of power-up is dependent on the Yoshi's color: green eggs hatch out a Super Mushroom, red eggs hatch out a Fire Flower, blue eggs hatch out a Cape Feather, and yellow eggs hatch out a Starman. If two pink berries are eaten, the egg will hatch a Yoshi Cloud. When the egg is expelled, it acts as a projectile. It can defeat enemies or activate blocks until it hatches.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe

Yoshi Eggs also appear in the challenge mode of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, where only one can be found per level, and can only be collected from a hidden block within each level; said hidden block is often near an object that did not appear in the original level. Collecting the egg earns the player 2,000 points and places an egg icon next to the Red Coins indicator; and the egg will hatch into a Yoshi upon clearing the level. If the player collects all the eggs from each level, they will unlock a picture in the Album.

The player can use the Egg Finder feature in the Toy Box to find the location of Yoshi Eggs; by pressing , the player stops the Egg Finder on a random stage, and the screen displays the approximate location.

Yoshi Challenge

In Super Mario Bros. 2's remake, Super Mario Advance, Yoshi Eggs can be collected after the game is completed. This is known as the Yoshi Challenge. Two Yoshi Eggs per level can be found in Subspace, in the places where Mushrooms would normally be found. Thus, only three hearts is the maximum capacity during the Yoshi Challenge. The player also must successfully beat all the levels without losing lives. Dying will cause the player to lose the eggs they collected for that level, and they have to collect the eggs again. The Yoshi Eggs will hatch once all of them have been found for a world.

Super Mario Sunshine

Yoshi eggs appear in Super Mario Sunshine, containing Yoshis within, and are available after the player completes the episode The Wilted Sunflowers in Pinna Park. After the episode is cleared Shadow Mario will appear in front of the Grand Pianta Statue carrying a Yoshi egg, and must be defeated by spraying him with FLUDD. After this encounter, a Yoshi egg will be available on a rooftop next to the western bell tower any time Mario returns to Delfino Plaza, and eggs will also appear in several missions within each of the levels. Each egg is accompanied by a thought bubble with an image of a fruit; Mario must present them the fruit shown to make them hatch. The type of fruit will determine the color of the Yoshi that emerges, and he can change colors by eating other fruits; if Yoshi is lost, he will reappear inside the egg in its original location.

Super Mario 64 DS

Yoshi's Eggs appear in Super Mario 64 DS as projectiles for Yoshi. They can be acquired by eating enemies and swallowing them to turn into eggs. Unlike in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi can carry only one egg at a time and must throw the egg in order to eat any other enemies. Thrown eggs home in on enemies onscreen and can bounce off enemies to hit another. If Yoshi swallows a wooden crate, the egg takes the form of a cube and slides across the ground in a similar manner when thrown. A Yoshi's Egg automatically disappears if Yoshi collects a Power Flower or puts on a cap; however, the egg is not affected if Yoshi grabs a Super Mushroom, but the egg cannot be thrown as Yoshi can only punch until the effects of the Mega form wear off.

Yoshi's Egg symbols also appear in two of Luigi's minigames, Mario Slot and Super Mario Slot. Getting three Yoshi's Eggs in a row earns the player five coins.

Super Mario 64 did not feature any Yoshi's Eggs, but an unused egg texture can be found in the game's coding.

Super Mario Galaxy

While the Yoshi's Eggs themselves do not appear as actual interactive objects in Super Mario Galaxy, there is a planet in the Good Egg Galaxy that resembles the Yoshi's Egg.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Yoshi eggs return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, hatching a Yoshi when a player hits a ? Block or Brick Block containing one or more eggs based on the players onscreen. They behave similarly to the eggs in Super Mario World, in which Yoshi also hatches from an egg spawned from a certain block. If Mario already has a Yoshi, the egg will produce a power-up instead. If the player's Yoshi eats five fruits or a Pokey during a vocal "paah" in the music, it will lay an egg containing a power-up. Yoshi eggs appear in World 1-3, World 2-5, World 3-2, World 4-5, World 6-4, and World 7-6. Green Yoshi eggs briefly appear during the opening scene of Peach's birthday. A small Yoshi egg with a blue bow appears near a larger green Yoshi egg next to Mario wrapped in a pink bow.

In E3 2009 and demo footage for the game, the pink and light-blue Yoshi eggs were originally red and blue Yoshi eggs, hatching out Yoshis of their respective colors. The Yoshi eggs also originally did not shake before being hatched.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

After being absent in the first game, Yoshi eggs appear in Super Mario Galaxy 2 in nest-like holes located in several galaxies. The eggs can be broken by jumping on them or hitting them with a spin, upon which Yoshi will emerge and become rideable. If Yoshi is lost, he will retreat into his egg and must be freed again. A Yoshi egg also appears on the "nose" of Starship Mario after completing the first mission of Yoshi Star Galaxy.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Yoshi eggs reappear in New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, and their Nintendo Switch ports, functioning the same way as in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. However, only green Yoshi eggs hatch out the corresponding Yoshis. Some levels feature Hidden Blocks containing a green Yoshi egg. There are also large, bright golden Yoshi eggs with white spots that hatch Glowing Baby Yoshis, though only one appears from a single ? Block, which hatches all of the Yoshis at once depending on the number of players on-screen. Green Yoshi eggs appear in the levels Yoshi Hill, Perilous Pokey Cave, Above the Cheep Cheep Seas, Prickly Goombas!, Fuzzy Clifftop, and Seesaw Shrooms, while Glowing Baby Yoshi eggs appear in the levels Fire Snake Cavern and Which-Way Labyrinth.

In New Super Luigi U, green Yoshi eggs and Glowing Baby Yoshi eggs appear in fewer levels than in New Super Mario Bros. U. Green Yoshi Eggs appear in levels Rolling Yoshi Hills, Underground Grrrols, Beanstalk Jungle, Fire and Ice, and Above the Bouncy Clouds, while Glowing Baby Yoshi eggs only appear in the level Piranhas in the Dark.

In the E3 2012 trailer and demo footage for the game, large blue and magenta Yoshi eggs each with white spots could appear from ? Blocks, containing and hatching all Bubble Baby Yoshis and Balloon Baby Yoshis respectively at once based on the number of players on-screen. However, these eggs do not appear in the final game as Bubble Baby Yoshis and Balloon Baby Yoshis instead appear on the world map and can follow the player(s) after coming in contact with one and can be taken to levels excluding Fortresses, Castles and Airships. The Baby Yoshi eggs are left in the final game's data, suggesting that they were intended to be included in the final game but were scrapped late in development. The eggs from which the Baby Yoshis hatch have the color palettes and the spots of the eggs switched from the adult Yoshi eggs.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS

Yoshi's Eggs reappear in Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, enabling players to use Yoshi. They can only be used in the Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U styles, as they are replaced by Goomba's Shoes in the Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 styles. If an egg (or Yoshi) is crushed, such as from a Thwomp or a falling Bill Blaster, it will disappear. When a Super Mushroom is dragged onto a Yoshi's Egg, it becomes a big Yoshi's Egg which hatches into two Yoshis at once that will run like they were hit by an enemy. Although more than one Yoshi's Egg can be placed, only two can actually hatch, while the others disappear upon hatching. A Yoshi's Egg on a track does not hatch until the player touches it, knocking it off of the track. A Yoshi's Egg in a Koopa Clown Car also does not hatch until it is removed from it.

Yoshi costumes also appear with which the player can pose as a Yoshi's Egg by pressing / tilting up.

Super Mario Odyssey

Yoshi's Eggs appear in Super Mario Odyssey, where they can be found in secret areas reached from the Dark Side and on top of Peach's Castle in the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario can jump on Yoshi Eggs or throw Cappy at them in order to break them and release Yoshi.

Super Mario Maker 2

Yoshi's Eggs reappear in Super Mario Maker 2, retaining their behavior in its predecessor. They can now be attached to parachutes. In addition, dragging a Super Mushroom onto it instead causes it to turn red, hatching into a Red Yoshi that can breathe fire.

In the puzzle game Yoshi, top and bottom halves of a Yoshi's egg appear on several occasions during gameplay. Stacking the two halves together will hatch a Baby Yoshi, earning 50 points for the player. If a top half of the egg is by itself on the gameplay board, it will dissipate. But if a bottom piece is by itself, it will remain until an upper piece is found, or another falls on top of it. If other objects are stacked on top of the egg piece and a top piece falls on top of the pile, it will plow through the entire stack until it reaches its other half. This results in a different kind of Yoshi hatching from the egg, depending on how many enemies were caught between the two pieces. The kinds of Yoshis which can be hatched is seen below.

Additionally, each enemy caught between the egg totals up into an extra 50 points when the egg is hatched.

Yoshi's Island series

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

Unlike games that preceded it, Yoshi's eggs in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its Game Boy Advance remake, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, are used as projectile weapons that are used by aiming and firing. Yoshis can lay eggs by swallowing enemies. Yoshis can also obtain these eggs by hitting an Egg Block that contains an unlimited supply of eggs and from Egg Plants that spit out eggs. Eggs can also fall into tulips in this game, resulting in the tulip spitting out Stars. There is the standard green egg, Yellow Eggs, Red Eggs, and Flashing Eggs. Each of the eggs, except the green egg, has a different effect. When thrown, green eggs bounce off surrounding surfaces two consecutive times before falling off-screen, turning yellow with the first bounce and red after the second. Giant Eggs also make an appearance when a Fat Guy is eaten, while red Giant Eggs appear during the final battle with Big Baby Bowser.

Yoshi Touch & Go

In Yoshi Touch & Go, Yoshi lays eggs when he collects fruit. Yoshi's Eggs can be used to collect items and defeat enemies.

Yoshi's Island DS

Yoshi's Eggs act the same way in Yoshi's Island DS. Flashing Eggs can be seen out of reach in the secret level Yoshi's Island Easter Eggs, used as an indicator to count how many rooms are cleared. Giant Eggs appear in the two final battles against Bowser. During the battle, they float in from either side, attached to balloons. During the first battle, only one egg is supplied at a time. Yoshi can pick it up and throw it at Bowser to turn him on his back. If Bowser manages to reach the egg before Yoshi, he will pick it up and throw it at Yoshi instead. During the second battle, when Bowser grows large, several Yoshis are seen on the screen at one time. Likewise, the balloon supplies several eggs, which can be thrown simultaneously at Bowser to inflict damage.

Yoshi's New Island

Yoshi eggs reappear in Yoshi's New Island, where they once again serve as a main weapon, where the act the same as they did in previous Yoshi's Island games. Additionally, there are also new egg variants called Mega Eggdozers and Metal Eggdozers. They can be used to destroy several giant items and enemies.

Yoshi's Story

Yoshi eggs are laid automatically in Yoshi's Story when an enemy is eaten, but the eggs are still used as projectile weapons. Unlike in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, the eggs hold no special effects, although eggs thrown by the White and Black Yoshis have more of an explosive impact. When a Yoshi eats a colored Shy Guy, it lays a Yoshi egg with spots that match the colored Shy Guy, including Black Shy Guys, though black-spotted eggs do not explode when thrown unless the Black Yoshi or White Yoshi is active. Every other enemy that can be eaten by a Yoshi automatically produces a green-spotted egg. The spots on Egg Blocks match the color of the current Yoshi and the spots on eggs they contain after being hit (in the Japanese version, the color of the Egg Blocks' and the eggs' spots is always green). In the tech demo port, the eggs appear as flat 2D sprites with an outline and indicate Yoshi's health alongside the Smile Meter.

Yoshi's Woolly World / Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World

While Yoshi's Eggs do not appear in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World as weapons (having been replaced with yarn balls), one made of yarn appears during Yoshi's transformation after entering a Transformation Door. Another one that has different colors of spots on it represents the Wonderful World of Wool level on the world map. A Yoshi's Egg is also used as the icon for Classic Mode and the world list on the world map's pause menu, and doilies with Yoshi's Egg designs with spots matching each world's theme color appear on the ground at each of the entrances on Craft Island.

Yoshi's Crafted World

Yoshi's Eggs reappear in Yoshi's Crafted World, where they act the same as they did in previous Yoshi games, although they can now be thrown at the items in the back and foregrounds. In addition, after throwing an egg at a surface such as a wall, Yoshi can jump off the egg as it bounces off that surface to gain extra height. In this game, there are four different colors of Yoshi eggs: green, red, orange, and blue.

Club Nintendo

In the Club Nintendo comic "Ostern im Schwammerlland", the Easter bunny dropped a Yoshi egg, out of which Yoshi emerged.

A Yoshi egg played an important role in the comic "Mario in Mariozilla", published in the same magazine. In this story, some fog coming out of Kamek's broom shrinks the Magikoopa and Mario to ant-size. When they sit on a blade of grass waiting for help, Yoshi swallows them. All attempts to get the two out of Yoshi's mouth fail, but ultimately Dr. Light gets the idea that Yoshi laying an egg could be the solution to the problem. Yoshi obviously has difficulties doing so, but two hours later, he finally lays an egg. Light breaks it up and indeed Mario and Kamek come out of it.

Mario Kart series

Super Mario Kart

An egg is a projectile used by Yoshi in Super Mario Kart. Only the computer may use eggs, and Yoshi has an unlimited supply of them. The egg is a "special" item, but all special items in the game are exclusive to CPU controlled drivers. It has the same function as a Banana but with short bouncing animations.

Mario Kart 64

Only one egg, called a Giant Egg, makes an appearance in Mario Kart 64. It is located in Yoshi Valley, near the last stretch before the grassy area and the finish line. The egg moves about in a circular pattern. When a player runs into it, the egg will smash the player, similar to when a player gets smashed when they are tiny. Maneuvering around this particular egg is difficult due to its tremendous size.

Yoshi's Eggs were planned to appear in Mario Kart 64, the graphics for which were discovered among many other assets for the game and several others in a leak on July 24, 2020.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, the Yoshi's Egg is a special item, exclusive to Yoshi, while it can also be used by Petey Piranha and King Boo, since they can use any special item. When thrown, the Yoshi's Egg will home on the next place racer. If a player uses it while first, the egg will just follow down the track and break. Unlike the Red Shell, there is a certain amount of distance an egg needs before it cracks, and the red shell is continuous until it either goes off the course, goes into a wall, or hits the player. When it breaks, three random items will get thrown out, which can be Green Shells, Mushrooms, Bananas, Stars, or Bob-ombs.

Birdo's special item, the Birdo's Egg, reuses the same texture design as a Yoshi's Egg but with magenta spots.

Mario Kart Arcade GP

The Yoshi's Egg appears as an item in Mario Kart Arcade GP and Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, in which it is known as the Rolling Egg. It is a special item exclusive to Yoshi which can be shot either forwards or backwards. Unlike the Yoshi's Egg in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, the Rolling Egg does not home in on opponents, but rather bounces off walls much like a Green Shell. The Rolling Egg also does not release items upon breaking.

In addition to the Rolling Egg, Yoshi has a special item called the Egg Body, which grants him a kart that is based on a Yoshi's Egg. This item is exclusive to the first Mario Kart Arcade GP title.

Another one of Yoshi's special items, the Mystery Egg, takes the form of a Yoshi Egg with multicolored spots.

Mario Kart DS

In Mario Kart DS, one of Yoshi's karts, called the Egg 1 resembles a Yoshi's Egg. It has very high acceleration and handling, but low weight and drifting. In the Yoshi Falls course, a giant Yoshi's Egg appears in the scenery, where it is seen floating in the middle of the lake between the cliff.

Mario Kart Wii

In Mario Kart Wii, the Yoshi's Egg appears only as an emblem on Yoshi's Karts and Bikes. There is also a giant Yoshi's Egg that appears in the retro course Yoshi Falls, taken from Mario Kart DS.

Mario Kart 7

In Mario Kart 7, the Yoshi egg is once again Yoshi's emblem and it also makes small appearances throughout courses. The Egg 1 also comes back from Mario Kart DS.

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

In Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Yoshi's Eggs can also be seen throughout N64 Yoshi Valley, as well as the giant one that appears on the track itself. The first DLC pack, released in November 2014, features the Egg Cup, which uses a Yoshi's Egg as its emblem. Three Yoshi's Eggs also appear in a nest in the logo of the sponsor Yoshi's Egg Market.

The Yoshi's Egg is once again Yoshi's emblem in Mario Kart 8. When using the different colors of Yoshis, the spots on the egg change color to match the respective Yoshi.

Mario Kart Tour

Yoshi's Eggs reappear in Mario Kart Tour as the special skill of Yoshi, Red Yoshi, Orange Yoshi, Light-blue Yoshi, Yellow Yoshi, Yoshi (Reindeer), Yoshi (Egg Hunt), and Yoshi Mii Racing Suit, functioning the same way as in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! When Yoshi's Egg+ is active, the egg is bigger and drops an extra item after hitting something. The Egg 1 also appears in the game as a Super kart. The Eggshell Glider resembles the top part of a Yoshi's Egg. Yoshi's Eggs also appear as background elements in N64 Yoshi Valley like in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Mario & Wario

In LEVEL2: Yosu Ko, the thing that Wario puts on Mario's head is half of a cracked Yoshi's egg.

In Game & Watch Gallery, Yoshi Eggs appear in the Modern versions of two games.

In Fire, Yoshi Eggs at times fall out the window of Princess Peach's burning castle. When they are caught or hit the ground, they break to reveal either a Bob-omb or Super Star.

In Oil Panic, one of Yoshi's ways of blasting Bowser away from the castle involves him laying an egg and throwing it at him.

Game & Watch Gallery 2

In Game & Watch Gallery 2, Yoshi Eggs appear in the Modern versions of four games.

In Parachute, three Yoshi Eggs come out of the flying ship every 100 points. They disappear to reveal a Super Star in one and a Boo Buddy in another.

In Chef, Yoshi lays an egg if he is fed five consecutive pieces of cooked food. If he is fed five more consecutive pieces of cooked food, the egg hatches into a Baby Yoshi, which replaces him. The egg disappears if Yoshi is fed any burnt food.

In Vermin, six Yoshi Eggs must be protected from Fly Guys, Para Troopas, and Boo Buddies. The enemies start pounding the eggs if they get too close. The game ends if an egg gets completely broken.

In Ball, the Yoshi variant involves juggling two or three Yoshi Eggs, depending on the game difficulty.

Game & Watch Gallery 3

In Game & Watch Gallery 3, Yoshi Eggs appear in the Modern versions of two games.

In Egg, a Light Blue Yoshi lays an egg if he eats a baked Yoshi-shaped Yoshi Cookie after eating enough baked cookies to fill up one of the cookie meters. He can lay up to two eggs. One egg eventually hatches into a Baby Yoshi if the Light Blue Yoshi continues eating cookies without missing. Any eggs disappear if the Yoshi misses a cookie.

In Turtle Bridge, a Yoshi Egg is given by Mario to Toad as one of the items to deliver to Peach if Toad continues delivering Mushrooms without losing a life. If Toad continues delivering Yoshi Eggs without missing, Mario eventually gives him a present to deliver.

In Game & Watch Gallery 4, Yoshi Eggs reprise their roles in the Modern versions of Fire (except 3-Up Moons replace Super Stars) and Chef. Also, a Yoshi Egg-shaped balloon appears as one of the balloons lifting Yoshi in a hammock in the Message Board.

Wario Land II

The treasure for the third story of the "Invade Wario Castle" chapter in Wario Land II resembles a Yoshi's egg.

Super Smash Bros. series

Throughout the Super Smash Bros. series, three of Yoshi's special moves involve utilizing Yoshi's Eggs in some way. Yoshi's neutral special move, Egg Lay, lets him swallow opponents and turn them into eggs, temporarily stunning them. His Egg Throw is his up special move, and for his side special move, Egg Roll (introduced in Super Smash Bros. Melee), Yoshi can encase himself in an egg and roll around. Also, his shield makes him encase himself into an egg.

A single Yoshi egg appears in one of the events of Super Smash Bros. Melee. In it, Yoshi must keep the Yoshi egg from breaking. If it is broken, the player fails. If time runs out and the Yoshi egg is not broken, the player wins. In the twelfth event "Sleeping in the Eggs" in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Yoshi must simultaneously capture Kirby and Pikachu inside Yoshi eggs.

In the first three games, the eggs are always green, no matter the palette swap. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the egg matches the palette swap.

Additionally, throughout the Super Smash Bros. series, Yoshi enters stages at the beginning of every match by hatching from a Yoshi's Egg.

Mario Tennis series

Mario Tennis (Nintendo 64)

A Yoshi egg appears as Yoshi's emblem on his racket in the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis. During the animations of Yoshi winning a cup during a tournament, it eats the trophy and lays a metallic golden egg.

Mario Tennis Open

Yoshi eggs appear in Mario Tennis Open during the animations of the colored Yoshis winning the Champions Cup and Final Cup. They eat the trophy and lay an egg that breaks and reveals the trophy. The spots on the eggs have the same color as their respective Yoshis.

Mario Party series

In most Mario Party games, the Yoshi's Egg appeared as one of the objects in various minigames. In Mario Party 3 and Mario Party Superstars, Yoshi's Eggs appear as items in the minigame Messy Memory. Yoshi and Birdo's signature orb in Mario Party 7 is the Egg Orb, which transforms any Character Space (including Koopa Kid Spaces) into a Yoshi's Egg. Also, Yoshi's Eggs appear in Mario Party: Island Tour as an item in Puzzle Pronto, Tile Savvy (only in Time Attack), and Three House. Yoshi's Eggs also appear in the Yoshi amiibo board in Mario Party 10. A Yoshi's Egg is also seen on a card in the Mario Party: Star Rush minigame Top It Off.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

A multi-colored Yoshi's Egg appears in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door in Glitzville. After Mario defeats Spike Storm in the Glitz Pit, the owner of the Hot Dog Stand, Mr. Hoggle, can be found chasing an egg that he wants to use to make the Southern Fried Egg Dog of Tastiness for his new menu, but is unable to catch it as the egg bounces away from him. After Mario catches up to it, the egg starts following him around in the field, but stays out of battles. When Mario returns to the locker room after losing his fight against the Armored Harriers, he finds that the egg hatched into a Yoshi, who joins his party. Befitting his species, the Yoshi is capable of laying and throwing eggs as his super rank technique: Mini-Egg. The eggs used in this attack have the property of shrinking whichever enemy they hit.

Mario Pinball Land

In Mario Pinball Land, a Yoshi Egg acts as a pinball that Mario can buy at Toad's tent, obtain from certain ? Blocks, or receive from a roulette after getting a question mark. If a Yoshi Egg goes to a different area from the one Mario is in in a level, the egg can be found when he enters that area as well, or vice versa. In addition to the regular green-spotted Yoshi Egg, there is also a Special Egg that is red with white stars instead of spots. A Special Egg can be obtained from a red ! Block that appears in a level's boss area after all the level's Red Coins are collected, but only if the player does not already have an item. When used, a Special Egg combines the effects of multiple items found in the game. As well as the player being given a second ball, like when using a Yoshi Egg, both balls are giant (the effect of a Mega Mushroom), and the drain at the bottom of the screen is blocked (same as when using a Pipe), meaning Mario cannot lose a life. Mario also becomes invincible (as if he used an Invincibility Star). There are only four Special Eggs available to be found in the game, and upon collecting or using one, Mario yells, "Special!"

Mario Superstar Baseball

Yoshi's Eggs are shown prominently in the minigame Piranha Panic in Mario Superstar Baseball. Players must throw eggs with the corresponding color (red, blue, green, or yellow) to a Piranha Plant to earn coins. Otherwise, the Piranha Plant throws fire toward the player. Purple Piranha Plants shoot fire at all four players, but they are vulnerable to all colors of the eggs.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games

Yoshi eggs serve as the objectives of the Dream Equestrian in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. In the event, players must race to the finish line, carrying a wagon full of seven colored Yoshis (red, blue, yellow, pink, light-blue, black and white) while avoiding obstacles. If an egg falls off the wagon, a 10 second penalty will be added to the player's time upon completing the event.

Mario & Luigi series

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

A single red Yoshi egg is found in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team as a key item, and the third item collected during a series of item trades pertaining to a sidequest in Wakeport. Mario and Luigi are given this item from a red Yoshi in the hotel district in northeast Wakeport after they give him the Rare Fruit.

Mario and Luigi must then head to the west side of the entrance to Pi'illoper's house in northwest Wakeport to give this item to a nearby Toad, who will thank them and give them Peach's Photo in exchange.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, the Yoshi in the mission "Yoshi Rush" eats three berries, creating Yoshi's Eggs. The Yoshi's Eggs trail behind the Yoshi during the race, and can be kicked at the Mario Bros. in order to slow them down.

Mario Golf series

Mario Golf: World Tour / Mario Sports Superstars

In Mario Golf: World Tour and Mario Sports Superstars, a Yoshi egg is seen in Yoshi's post-hole animations when he scores above par. He turns into an egg when he gets a bogey, but when he gets a double bogey or worse, the egg also rolls around and hits the camera. Giant Yoshi eggs also appear in Yoshi Lake, with smaller ones being the tee markers.

Mario Golf: Super Rush

During Yoshi's special shot, the Eggschanger, when the ball lands near other balls, the balls turn into Yoshi Eggs. When transformed, the ball will wobble when bounced. They are also used during the Egg Rush event in Battle Golf. These balls are known as Egg Balls in the Target Golf mode.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

In the teaser posterMedia:The Super Mario Bros Movie teaser poster.jpg for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a green Yoshi's Egg can be seen in the antiques store. In the movie itself, a Shy Guy brings a Yoshi's Egg to Bowser's and Peach's wedding as a wedding gift. Later in the post-credits scene, that same Yoshi's Egg is seen sitting in rubble in the sewer in Brooklyn that Mario and Luigi entered at the beginning of the film. The egg begins to hatch and Yoshi's voice is heard as the screen cuts to black.

Other appearances

A Yoshi egg is an item in several games of the Animal Crossing series. A Yoshi egg can be received in Animal Crossing: City Folk for 1,000 shop points, and in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, a Yoshi's egg is one of the 50 prizes from Fortune cookies. In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Yoshi's egg can be claimed as a reward after catching a Cheep Chomp in Fishing Tourney #12, which began on March 14, 2019 as part of the Super Mario crossover event for Mario Day.
