Sprint is a Cycling Event that appears exclusively in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The objective of the event is to beat the opponent either by successfully blocking them or overtaking them.

Gameplay[edit]

This event consists of two rounds, a semi-final match between the player and one other opponent, followed by either a final match against the other winning character if the player wins or a third place match against the other losing character if the player wins, although all appearances in the story mode only consist of one round. Each round consists of three laps, with the player required to win two to be able to win. The player will initially start behind the other player, and must overtake them by moving the circle pad to be able to get past them, and press A to begin to sprint. If the player manages to move over enough to pass them, they will take the lead, giving them an advantage in the final sprint, though failure to do so will cause them to remain behind. When the player is in front f the other character, they must look backwards by pressing the A Button and move side to side accordingly to block their opponent from getting past. The player can only view the character behind for a limited amount of time before having to press the button again. If the player manages to block the other character for long enough, they will retain the lead in the final sprint, though failure to do so will allow the opponent to overtake. In the final sprint, the player must repeatedly press the A Button to sprint to the finish line. During this time, the player behind is able to overtake if they can sprint fast enough. Once the race is over, the winner will receive a point before the net round begins.
