Dream Long Jump appears in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, taking place at Yoshi's Picture Book from Yoshi's Story. The game involves four players jumping on clouds to see how far they can travel before falling into the water below. The starting Olympic record in this event is held by Yoshi at 322.97 meters.

During London Party mode, when the player faces off against Dry Bowser, they compete in this event.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, players jump on three types of clouds while avoiding enemies that come down. The clouds have different effects when Ground Pounded. The first type is a regular or sturdy cloud which Ground Pounding it does nothing to the cloud. Ground Pounding in general gains more height than without. The second type is called a Cleaving Cloud. Cleaving Clouds come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Small ones disappear once Ground Pounded, but a medium one becomes two smalls and a large one becomes two mediums. The third and final type is a thundercloud which shots lightning in diagonal directions. If the lightning touches a player, they become stunned for a bit. Players can also be on balloons which move if touched. There are also three types of enemies that stun the player if touched. The first enemy is a Big Bullet Bill which goes across the screen and does not change height. The second enemy is a Fly Guy which can be defeated by a simple jump or a Ground Pound. The third enemy is a Mega Cheep-Cheep, which comes down from the top. Lastly, this event lasts as long as at least one human player has not fallen into the water below. All players who fall into the water below become bomb balloons which stuns any remaining player(s) if they explode near them and can do this as long as the event goes on. Computer players always do this to the player in farthest to the right, as the bomb balloons go from right to left in the water.

Layout[edit]

The level starts out on a grassy platform where the characters are introduced. After the introduction, they run in the order of introduction and jump onto some sturdy clouds. The level then autoscrolls to the right. After a short distance, some three small Cleaving Clouds appear above water and a medium Cleaving Cloud nearby followed by some sturdy moving clouds. After going up then back down, the players are introduced to a balloon and a gap followed by a thundercloud. After a short distance, a Big Bullet Bill comes through, but the players can avoid it by using two medium Cleaving Clouds. Following this is a Fly Guy and a stair case before an area of large Cleaving Clouds with a Mega Cheep-Cheep. Soon afterwards, players need to jump over balloons between sturdy clouds. After a large Cleaving Cloud, there is a thundercloud and four small Cleaving Clouds. After some rising Cleaving Clouds, a Big Bullet Bill appears below, and a Fly Guy appears above in an area of medium Cleaving Clouds. After another large Cleaving Cloud, the players must get past many balloons on moving medium and small Cleaving Clouds. Not long after, the players come across a big area of a large Cleaving Cloud, two medium Cleaving Clouds, a thundercloud, and two Mega Cheep-Cheeps. After a Fly Guy, there are three balloons in a diagonal from the bottom followed by another Fly Guy and three balloons in a diagonal from the top followed by a Fly Guy before many balloons with a tiny gap. This is followed by five Fly Guys and a balloon with a Mega Cheep-Cheep and two Big Bullet Bills coming from the left. Finally, the level ends with no more of anything but three Mega Cheep-Cheeps in three different lines. The total distance of platforms is 370m.
