Beach Volleyball is an Event that appears exclusively in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. It is set on the Horse Guards Parade. The objective of the event is to get the most points and get a set amount of points. This can be 5, 9, 15, or 21, depending on what the player chooses before starting. The player can also set the best out of number game(s) to either 1 or 3 here too. Donkey Kong, Daisy, Vector, and Silver can be seen taking part in this event during the opening.

Gameplay[edit]

The event starts out with a chart of who the player is playing against, as well as another two competing. This chart is shown again after winning the first round (but not if it was lost) except with the winner of the other two in the center. After choosing positions for the characters, the announcer announces the teams. Then the team on the left serves for the start of the first and third game and the team on the right serves for the second game. Otherwise the that scored serves. To serve, the player must press Two Button or swing the Wii Remote up (depending on the playstyle) twice or wait until it does it automatically. If the player press down on Control Pad or Control Stick with the Two Button press or Wii Remote Swing, the character serves it underhanded. If the player press up with the Two Button press or Wii Remote swing, the character jumps into the air with the ball. To keep the ball in the air, the player needs to press Two Button or A Button. If the player presses Two Button or swings the Wii Remote while doing in the air, it goes to other side no matter what. But after three times on one side, it goes to other side. Not pressing Two Button or swinging the Wii Remote results in a weaker shot. Eventually, the character becomes red. When this happens and the player they hold One Button or B Button with Two Button or the swing, they get a chance to do a Special Shot. To block the ball from getting to the player's side, they must press Two Button or swing Wii Remote up, preferably near the net. If the player has set both characters to be them, the player can press B Button or Nunchuk Z Button to switch the active character. If the ball lands on a side, the other side gets a point. If the ball goes out, the other team gets a point as well. This happens in rare conditions. Points continue until one team gets the set number of points. However, if both teams have at least the set number of points minus one, it will be called a deuce. When this happens, one team must get two points to win. But, after enough deuces (e.g. 8 points for 5 points), it becomes game or match point for both. If there are multiple rounds, it goes to the second round after the first round, and the third round if both teams have won a game. After a match, the announcer announces the winner or how the player did.
