Taekwondo is a Contact Sports Event that appears exclusively in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The event focuses on scoring points by hitting the opponent and gaining the most points or knocking out the opponent to win.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, the player must play two matches, an initial semi-final match to decide which round they go to next, and either a final round against the other winning character for a victory or a third place round against the other losing character for a loss. In this event, the player must hold A Button for varying lengths of time to charge up power and be able to perform different moves, with the amount of charge built up indicated by the color and size of the flames that appear around the character, and use the left and right directions on the control pad to move across the stage. If the player only presses the button or charges for a short period of time, their character will be surrounded by blue flames and perform either a front jab, middle jab or front kick, scoring them one point. If they charge for a longer period of time, their character will be surrounded by yellow flames and will perform either a jump kick, hook kick or back spin kick, scoring them two points. If the player charges for the maximum amount of time, their character will be surrounded by red flames and will perform a spinning kick or axe kick, which will score them three points, and if the other character does not attempt to counter the move, will cause them to be knocked out. However, if the player is too far away from the opponent, they will perform the move but will not land a hit, meaning that they do not score any points. The round is won when either on character has been knocked out, or by whoever has the most points when time runs out. Espio acts as a referee in this event.
