Fencing - Epée is an Event that appears exclusively in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. It is set in ExCeL London. The objective of the event is to get the set number of points in a three-minute time limit. The points can be 5, 10, or 15, depending on what the player chooses before starting, but the time cannot be set.

During London Party mode, when the player faces off Eggman Nega for the first time, they compete in this sport.

Gameplay[edit]

The event starts out with a chart of who the player is playing against, as well as another two competing. This chart is shown again after winning the first round (but not if it was lost) except with the winner of the other two in the center. The announcer then announces the players' characters. Then the characters go into stances until announcer says "Start!". The player can then move with left/right on the Control Pad or Control Stick. To thrust, the player must thrust the Wii Remote forward. By holding the B Button button, the player can either build up power till red or do a Power Thrust. Once the Epée glows red, the player can then press A Button and B Button together to do a Special Thrust of that character. However, the other character can stop the Special Thrust by thrusting into them before they thrust. Sometimes when a player does a Power Thrust, no point is counted, but the opponent is unable to do anything. This can also happen if A Button is press when the other player does any type of thrust except Special. If it was a Special Thrust, the player who pressed A Button cannot move, but the other player does get a point. If both player are near each other and they both press A Button at the same time, they move far away from each other. If a player falls due to being thrusted off the edge, the other player gets an extra point. At the end of the match, the losing player falls, but the extra point does not happen at the end of the match even if it the fall conditions were meant. After a match, the announcer announces the winner or how the player did.
