A Big Hit,[1] also known as tackle in Mario Strikers: Battle League, is a defensive move in the Mario Strikers series. It is used to knock down opponents, and if a character tackles the opponent that has the ball, it gets out of the dribbler's position and rolls to another area of the field, as opposed to the Slide Tackle which can steal the ball from the dribbler's position. Due to the increased power of the Big Hit, players are stunned for a larger amount of time as opposed to being Slide Tackled. However, tackling a character who does not have the ball cause the opponent's team to receive an item as a penalty. Players that have the ball can deke to avoid a tackle, though players who do not have the ball do not have access to this technique.
In Mario Strikers Charged, the range of the Big Hit is determined by the Defense stat: the higher the defense stat, the more range their Big Hit has. Power characters have more powerful Big Hits than other characters and launch players further. If players clear "Brick Wall Baby!" from Challenges, they unlock the "Devastating Hits" cheat, which gives all players the Power characters' Big Hits launching abilities.
In Mario Strikers: Battle League, tackles can be charged to increase their power and range. The power of the tackle and its impact is determined by a character's Strength stat. Characters with higher strength have higher range and can launch others further.
