SPD-Down is a status ailment appearing in the Mario & Luigi series. It stands for "Speed-Down" and is the opposite of SPD-Up.

History[edit]

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga / Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions[edit]

The status ailment first appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, some enemies have attacks that can lower the Mario Bros.' speed, which may allow them attack before Mario or Luigi on subsequent turns. The ailment is indicated by a streaking blue flash with an arrow pointing down.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, a First Strike with a hammer can cause enemies to begin battle with lowered speed.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time[edit]

The status ailment also appears in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, where it serves the same function. It is indicated by a shrinking blue circle around the afflicted. Ice Flowers can randomly inflict this status ailment on enemies.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[edit]

SPD-Down makes an appearance in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, indicated by blue streaks flowing downward. Only Durmite and Durmite X can inflict SPD-Down on the Mario Bros. Just like in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, a First Strike with a hammer in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey will cause enemies to start the battle with this status effect.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]

SPD-Down makes another appearance in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. It is one of the rarest status effects in the game, as only Blue Viruses can inflict this status effect to the brothers.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]

SPD-Down returns in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. By using a SPD-Down Battle Card, Mario, Luigi and Paper Mario can decrease enemies' speed.
