The following is a list of updates Mario Kart Tour has received since launch.


Version 1.0.2[edit]

Release date: October 3, 2019

  • In some cases, it may become impossible to play if no nickname is entered during the Nintendo Account linking process.
  • After linking the Nintendo Account, certain players may encounter error code 805-9314 and playing may be impossible.
  • In some cases, it may become impossible to play when the player enters the main screen on the startup of the game.
  • Other minor issues.

Version 1.1.0[edit]

Release date: October 17, 2019

  • You can now view a list of badges you have obtained.
  • You can now check the points required to get Grand Stars, the number of Grand Stars, and your current best score on the screen for courses and bonus challenges.
  • Addressed known issues.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • The Shop button icon is added in the main screen.
  • A pop-up bubble appears in the cup selection when a new cup is open or a new tour gift requirement is reached.
  • CPU drivers are now able to use item frenzies during a race.
  • The "FINISH!" label for cups that have been finished but not yet fully completed has been changed to "CLEARED!"
  • On the final race results screen after the base point increases, and when using point-boost tickets, the player can tap the screen to proceed through the animations faster.
  • Selecting a challenge on a challenge card highlights it with a yellow frame.

  • Adjusted race controls.
  • Added a list of tickets you currently have.
  • You can now earn bonus points for finishing a race in Frenzy mode.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • A button has been added to the bottom of the screen that allows a player to drift or steer depending on the Manual Drift setting. The rearview mirror button has been relocated to the bottom-right of the screen.
  • The player can now perform Ultra-Mini Turbos even when Manual Drift is off by using the drift button. Using the steer button with Manual Drift on does not allow Ultra-Mini Turbos.
  • The FAQ text describing how long Gold Pass benefits remain valid has been changed from "until 10:00 PT" into "until the daily reset (10:00 PT)".
  • "Badge" on the menu has been corrected to "Badges".

Version 1.4.0[edit]

  • You can now see more information about other players in your ranking tier, including the driver they are using.
  • Adjusted how the ranking announcement and menu screens are displayed.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • Along with the driver being used by other players in the same ranking tier, the kart, glider, and score for each course are now visible.
  • Multiplayer is no longer darkened with "Inbound!" in front of it. It was under maintenance at the time.
  • Certain icons appear next to drivers, kart, and gliders that have not been unlocked yet indicating whether they are available as a spotlight (a green pipe icon), as a Gold Gift (a Gold Pass icon), or a special offer in the Shop (a pink starburst icon), similar to the existing Shop icon.
  • Coin Rush is selectable in the Shop under Daily Selects.

Version 2.0.0[edit]

  • Added support for racing against players from around the world via multiplayer. This service is scheduled to become available on March 8th, at 8:00 PM PT.
  • Added a camera feature. Using this feature during a race allows you to freely move the camera around your driver as they automatically steer. Use it to view the action from different angles!
  • Made other adjustments and addressed known issues to improve the overall gameplay experience.
Specific/unlisted changes

  • The startup screen and the game icon have been changed to a scene featuring Peach and Mario racing against each other.
  • The Multiplayer button icon is added in the main screen.
  • The pre- and post-race screens have been adjusted.
    • Base points and level information for each driver, kart, and glider is now displayed on the “Ready to Race!” screen. When playing single player, you can tap on the base points or level to use boost tickets. This feature cannot be used in multiplayer or bonus challenges.
    • The bonus-points boost is now displayed on the results screen. When a bonus-points boost is applied to a driver, kart, or glider, their level will light up.
    • The player can earn a "NONSTOP COMBO!" if a player maintains an unbroken combo between the Rocket Start and the end of the race, and is displayed when finishing a race. It is also displayed on the results screen.
    • In the results screen, points flash when the player reaches a high score.
  • The "Got it!" screen for a Grand Star is no longer played when acquiring them. It still plays when redeeming with star tickets, however.
    • This resulted the prompt for claiming coins from accrued Grand Stars to not appear after the last tour gift is obtained.
  • The icons (shop, spotlight, special offer, Gold Gift) are also displayed for the unlocked drivers, karts, and gliders.
  • The multiplayer icon is altered to a group of Toads.
  • The experience points are no longer given to drivers, karts and gliders whose base points are maxed out, as a consequence, a single driver, kart or glider can acquire up to 450 experience points per day and the player is now warned when 90 or less experience points are left to be gained in the day.
  • When tapping the driver before the race countdown starts, the driver performs a brief animation.
  • Red Koopa (Freerunning) and Gold Koopa (Freerunning) now make a sound when they are selected.
  • In Combo Attack bonus challenges, points are no longer given to actions during the challenge.
  • The Friends list now displays friends' ranking tier alongside their badge.
  • During a Bob-omb or Double Bob-omb frenzy, the Bob-ombs that get thrown no longer explode instantly once they hit the ground.
  • The player no longer stay in the effects of the Mega Mushroom when activating a Frenzy, and shrinks down to normal size.
  • Competitors' ranking scores at the start of a ranked cup are displayed as "???" instead of "0".
  • The confirmation screen for launching a pipe is different, and features a large, flashing button that the player taps to confirm.

Version 2.1.0[edit]

  • The Team Game rule has been added to multiplayer.
  • The Room Code feature has been added to multiplayer.
  • Support for Expert Challenges has been added. These challenges will become available in future tours.
  • Support for the Coins Aplenty event has been added. This event will become available in future tours.
  • The issue preventing players from receiving a level-up reward when they advance to the next player level has been addressed.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • Players can now earn up to 100 coins a day as they wait for a multiplayer match to be found.
  • Players can now move the camera around before the race begins.
  • High scores earned by friends in a particular cup can now be seen for every cup. Scores shown are those recorded after updating to Version 2.1.0.
  • The points-cap ticket has been added, it's used to increase the base points cap.
    • Drivers, karts, and gliders that have reached their base points cap is indicated by the word LOCKED.
  • Support has been added for player level 100 and beyond.
  • When a driver, kart, or glider that the player owns appears in the Daily Selects, the number of duplicates needed to level them up is displayed.
  • The levels and base-points of the drivers, karts, and gliders that opponents have used for their scores in the ranked cup is displayed.
    • In addition, the label showing the tier of the driver, kart, and glider in the course appears above the respective icons, for all the records obtained after the update to version 2.1.0.
  • The buttons for Standard Race and Gold Race are adjusted.
  • The notification bar on the main screen scrolls faster.
  • A new sound effect is added when the player achieves a "NONSTOP COMBO!" race.
  • In rulesets with less than 3 item slots in multiplayer, the action of hitting an opponent with a Super Star displays "Super Star strike!" rather than "Frenzy strike!" (as Frenzy mode do not occur in this ruleset).
  • All the courses and bonus challenge of each cup are unlocked as soon as the cup is unlocked.
  • A special sound effect is played when obtaining the last Grand Star from a race or a bonus challenge
  • Gold Challenges can be achieved when the player is not subscribed to the Gold Pass. As soon as the player subscribes to it, they will receive the awards for achieving them.

  • Added support for landscape orientation during races.
  • Players may now invite their friends to a multiplayer room that they have created.
  • Added support for different events. Further details, including the schedule, will be made available via upcoming in-game notifications.
  • Adjust the appearance of the main screen.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • There is a new Tour Gifts screen separate from the main screen that displays tour gifts received and those still available. The screen resembles the early Tour Gifts screen from the beta.
    • Unopened gifts are granted to the player upon opening the Tour Gifts screen.
    • Some gifts appear as an icon at the top of the screen when scrolled beneath. These gifts are marked with a red ribbon on the corners.
  • The bottom of the screen features button icons for Multiplayer, Challenges, Tour Gifts, Shop, and Menu.
    • Instead of the scrolling notification bar on the top of the screen, the notifications are displayed for the bottom buttons as pop-up bubbles with information regarding multiplayer, new Daily Challenges, new pipes, and updates to the Daily Selects.
  • The Challenges screen now contains a Daily Challenges page.
    • All challenges (except the Daily Challenges) now display a progress bar, including completed challenges and Gold Pass challenges for non-subscribers.
  • Added a setting to turn on/off the Steer or Drift button displayed during races.
  • There is a new Restart Race button in the in-race menu, which is exclusive to single player races and challenges.
  • Gold Pass subscribers have the daily coin cap lifted from 300 to 600, and daily base points XP cap from 450 to 900.
  • Tickets in the Daily Selects section of the shop now have a "1" displayed in the lower right-hand corner, indicating 1 ticket.
  • The number of rule sets in rotation has been increased from three to four for Standard Races and four to five for Gold Races.
    • Gold Race rule sets may now include teams.
  • Players can invite their friends to a multiplayer room that they have created.
  • Added support for an All-Cup Ranking feature.
  • The timing of the warning when the player is targeted by a Red Shell, Yoshi's Egg, or Birdo's Egg has been adjusted so that it appears sightly earlier than before.
  • During a Frenzy of an item that can be thrown forward or backward, the player changes the default direction once they perform a throw in the other direction.
  • Grand Stars now twinkle when the player collects a new Grand Star in a race or bonus challenge.
  • The prompt for claiming coins from accrued Grand Stars now reappear after the last tour gift is obtained.

Version 2.6.0[edit]

  • A driver's special skill can now be improved when their level is increased.
  • When a driver, kart, or glider is leveled up, a number of their favored courses are upgraded to favorite courses.
  • Auto mode has been added, which lets users watch drivers automatically drive through courses as well as share screenshots via other applications.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • The game icon has been changed to show a "1st Anniversary" banner and Mario holding a checkered flag.
  • The profile menu and the Tier Shop have been added.
    • As a result, the badges menu and the total score in the options have been moved in the profile menu.
  • The "Event Shop" name has been changed to "Token Shop".
  • The player can now send Greeting Coins to their friends.
  • The player can now share a Room Code via Create Room when selecting the race setting "Room Code".
  • The player can now collect coins while joining a room via "With Friends or Others Nearby" or with a Room Code.
  • When Left/Right Controls is enabled, the finger that touches the left side of the screen will continue to steer the kart if the finger sliders over to the right side of the screen.
  • New events, challenges, and other bonus challenges have been addressed.

Specific/unlisted changes
  • The player now receives 5 coins upon opening a Greeting Coin from another player in their friends list.
    • The animation showing 1 coin being received has been replaced with a small text banner that reads "Received 5 Greeting Coins!".

Version 2.8.0[edit]

  • Made preparations for the new Kart Pro event, which challenges players to achieve consecutive multiplayer wins.
  • Made preparations for a system that rewards players depending on the total of their highest scores across all cups in a tour.
  • In landscape mode, players can now play with steering controls on the right side of the screen and item controls on the left.
  • Added photo filters for auto mode.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • The game icon has been adjusted to only show Mario in the center holding the checkered flag (without the "1st Anniversary" banner).
  • Multiplayer rooms now feature an option to play a match of 3, 6, or 12 races, which represents 1, 2, or 4 consecutive cups, respectively.
    • Races are scored on a scale of 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1, with players being ranked between races and at the end of the match.
  • Friendly fire can now be turned on in team multiplayer rooms, allowing thrown items to target any player, regardless of team.
  • The Tips & Tricks menu can now be accessed from the driver, kart, and glider selection screen when choosing a course.
    • In addition, many of these tips have been rewritten and given updated images.
  • The dots that show the amount of pipes and packs there are on the main menu have been changed from solid white to flashing red and white.
    • Each dot will only revert to solid white after the corresponding banner is opened by the player.
  • The course map is now visible in races during a Team Rally.
  • Opening a friend's profile will gift the player all uncollected Greeting Coins from that friend, removing the need to close and reopen the friend list to collect multiple days' worth of coins.
  • The shop icon now shows up on items that appear in the Token Shop and Tier Shop.

Version 2.8.1[edit]

Specific/unlisted changes
  • When opening a friend's profile from the Friend Ranking screen, a different profile than the one intended may be displayed.
  • When using the Super Bell or Super Bell+ in multiplayer, the displayed Super Bell item disappears if the kart comes in contact with an opponent. Afterwards, the effects of the Super Bell will remain active, but its bonus points do not get counted.
  • If the play data reflects that a player had not logged in between Version 2.6.0 and Version 2.6.2, the corresponding player may not be able to complete downloading the new data and will not be able to log in.
  • If the automatic renewal for the Gold Pass fails, it may prevent the player from subscribing to the Gold Pass again.

Version 2.9.0[edit]

  • Adjusted the rules for Kart Pro so that a player's win streak will be maintained if they get 2nd or 3rd place.
  • Adjusted the chance for opponents in a single-player race to use the Lightning or Spiny Shell items.

  • The All-Clear Pipe screen now displays the "All Cups Cleared!" text.
  • The Daily Log-in Bonus now highlights the current day.
  • When returning to the main screen after finishing a race or bonus challenge, it plays an animation for newly earned Grand Stars on the course icon.

  • You can now join Standard Races/Gold Races that a friend is playing.

The following changes are planned to be implemented in future tours.

  • You will be able to see detailed play records for each past tour.
  • Additional rules for events to collect event tokens.
  • We're preparing an event in which you can get lots of event tokens.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • Support for older Android devices with a 32-bit CPU, as well as those using 64-bit CPU but running Android in 32-bit mode, has been removed.
  • The event token count has been moved to the top of the screen, between the coin count and the ruby count.
  • Star tickets can now be used to unlock free pipe pulls directly.
  • Tour gifts for first-time players have been upgraded. The tutorials when playing in a cup for the first time and when clearing a course have also been revamped.
  • In single-player team races (in that case, races during a Team Rally), the teammates racing behind the player no longer throw items forward.
  • Issues regarding Today's Challenge have been fixed.
    • Prior to this update, if the pre-selected driver had not yet been unlocked, their special item would not have been obtainable during the race, despite it being visible in the item roulette. This was fixed to make them obtainable.
  • An animation of Grand Stars being decreased from the tour gifts' required Grand Stars count was added.
  • Prior to this update, the first set of bananas from a Triple Banana frenzy disappear after the second set is thrown. In this update, the first set disappear after the sixth set is thrown.
  • The special dash animation on the Kamek's Zoom Broom kart has been fixed.

  • Made preparations for Mii drivers to be usable in future tours.
  • Made preparations to increase the maximum level of drivers, karts, and gliders to level 8.
  • Made adjustments so usernames are displayed above drivers at the start of a multiplayer race.
  • Changed the app icon.
  • Fixed bugs.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • The game icon has been changed to show Mario and a Mii racing. The startup screen has been changed as well.
  • The menu screens' frame rate has been increased from 30 frames per second to 60.
  • Players now receive points for hitting opponents that are using the Mega Mushroom.
  • Changes that took effect starting in the Mii Tour:
    • Player level cap increase from 150 to 300.
    • Rank tier cap increase from 70 to 80.
    • The bonus points earned for using certain special items increase (Ice Flower, Giga Bob-omb, Mushroom Cannon, Birdo's Egg, Bowser's Shell, Super Leaf, Super Bell, Dash Ring, Double Bob-ombs, Triple Green Shells, Banana Barrels, Hammer, Fire Flower, Bob-omb Cannon, and Yoshi's Egg).

Version 3.0.0[edit]

Release date: September 28, 2022

  • Made preparations for Battles, a new way to play.*
  • Made preparations for the Spotlight Shop, where you'll be able to exchange rubies for drivers and more.*
  • The best score you've ever achieved on each course will now be recorded.
  • You can now play the next course directly from the race results screen.

*These are scheduled to be provided for future tours.

Specific/unlisted changes
  • The game icon has been changed to feature Mario steering with the balloons attached.
  • The Token Shop has been moved all the way to the bottom from its original position above the Daily Selects and Tier Shop.
  • The race results screen has been updated with three buttons below the statistics: a "Try again" button which will restart the race with the same opponents but their Starting Line positions being rearranged (unless the player is playing a Today's Challenge race), an "X" button which will take players back to the menu, and a "Next" button which will take players to the next race or bonus challenge (unless they are on the results screen after completing the bonus challenge in the latest unlocked cup or final cup).
  • Player level cap has been increased from 300 to 400.
  • Rank tier cap has been increased from 80 to 99.
  • Multiplayer grade cap has been increased from S+6 to S+9.
    • The multiplayer grade color has been changed from blue to green for races, and a new purple-colored grade has been added for Battle.
  • The multiplayer menu layout has been adjusted.
    • Standard races and Gold Races are combined.
    • The "Battle" button is added.
  • Certain special items have been adjusted:
    • The Bubble can be popped by tapping the screen continuously.
    • The Super Leaf has a slightly larger radius for attracting coins.
    • The Bubble and Super Leaf will be emptied from the item slot when they are used, and a random item is drawn in the item slot.
    • Triple Bananas and Double Bob-ombs have a wider space between them when thrown.
  • The item probability for Lightning will be reduced for opponents in single-player.
  • Dr. Bowser's driver model has been readjusted to his correct size, to match Bowser and his other variants. The kart size has also been re-categorized, from medium to large.

Version 3.1.0[edit]

  • Made it so that the number of players remaining and the number of balloons popped will be displayed during battles.
  • Addressed known issues.
Specific/unlisted changes
  • Coin Rush tickets can be used for "Coins × 6" and "Coins × 10" variants of Coin Rush.
  • A message "Pop your opponents' balloons!" is displayed when starting a battle in single player.
  • The 5-second countdown is displayed before the timer runs out on a battle.
  • The animation for completing a challenge has been streamlined. The badge obtain screen no longer plays.
  • The Daily Spotlight shop items can be changed three times per day, instead of once per day.

Version 3.2.0[edit]

  • Made adjustments to how the Shop is displayed.

  • The game icon has been adjusted to feature Mario steering without the balloons.

  • An update fixed an issue where the player quits a battle mode then enters a race finds generic computer opponents (players without badges).

  • During battles, picking up dropped mushrooms and coins no longer receive bonus points and combos.
  • An update fixed an issue when the Item List is displayed twice after obtaining a driver/kart/glider from a continuous Gold Pass subscription reward pipe.
  • The music for GCN Waluigi Stadium has been fixed to its correct volume level.
  • The time it takes for the drivers, karts, and gliders screens to switch is faster on certain devices.

  • As of February 2024, in the Latin American Spanish version of the game, the name "Circuito Luz de Luna" was changed to "Autopista de la Luna", the latter being the name originally assigned to Moonview Highway in Mario Kart Wii for that version.
