This is a list of pre-release and unused content for the game Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS.

Unused data[edit]

Mystery Mushroom[edit]

Unused Mystery Mushroom obtained through a glitch in Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS

Although the Mystery Mushroom from the Wii U version of Super Mario Maker was made unobtainable through normal means, it is still obtainable through two overlooked methods:

  1. A Magikoopa enlarged with a Super Mushroom can still randomly turn a brick block into one with his magic attacks.
  2. One can appear in Make mode if the player places a Weird Mushroom in a ? Block in the Super Mario Bros. style, switches the style to a different game, runs several screens away, then switches the style back to Super Mario Bros. and returns.

When Mario obtains a Mystery Mushroom, he gains the characteristics of Super Mario (ducking, breaking Brick Blocks, and spawning Fire Flowers when approaching a status-dependent power-up) while retaining the appearance of Small Mario. When Mario is hurt in this form, a Super Mushroom will fly off of him, just as a costume will fly off of Mario in Super Mario Maker when he is hurt while in Costume form.

Big Mario[edit]

Similarly, while the Big Mushroom power-up is unobtainable through normal means, it remains in the game's code and can be acquired through cheat codes. When it is used, Mario appears as Big Mario with classic colors and has all the functionality of Big Mario.[1]

Unused graphics[edit]

An unused sprite exists for Mario with his modern colors. It is assumed from its filename ("M1_Player_MegaMario2Mdl") that it is a leftover of the Big Mushroom from Super Mario Maker for Wii U.

Unused costume data[edit]

Although the costumes cannot be used in this version, the files CharaMarioTable.byaml and Boss_CharaMarioTable.byaml (separate table used for costumes from updates and Event Courses) exists in the game's files. The costumes in the game's Boss_CharaMarioTable.byaml file are left unused.
