"Flying Battleship Theme"[1] is a musical theme in Super Mario Maker, where it plays in Super Mario Bros.-style airship-themed levels.

History[edit]

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

Super Mario Maker marks the first appearance of "Flying Battleship Theme".

An ambient arrangement of "Flying Battleship Theme" plays while editing Super Mario Bros.-style airship-themed levels in the Course Maker. This arrangement uses eight tracks that fade in and out randomly to create a dynamic mix.

Both the original theme and the Course Maker arrangement return in the Nintendo 3DS port, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, for the same purposes.

In Super Mario Maker 2, while the Course Maker arrangement returns virtually unchanged, the original theme has been tweaked to be more accurate to the sound capabilities of the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Exclusively in Super Mario Maker 2, a music box arrangement of "Airship BGM" plays in the nighttime version of Super Mario Bros.-style airship-themed levels.

Super Mario Odyssey[edit]

Super Mario Odyssey features three arrangements of "Flying Battleship Theme" arranged by Naoto Kubo.

An orchestral arrangement of "Flying Battleship Theme" plays near the end of the opening cutscene. It is titled "The Skies above Peach's Castle" in the Nintendo Music app.

A faster-paced arrangement of "Flying Battleship Theme" plays during the cutscene after defeating Bowser on the Cloud Kingdom. It is titled "Bowser's Bombardment: The Odyssey Goes Down" in the Nintendo Music app.

A slower-paced arrangement of "Flying Battleship Theme" plays during the cutscene where Bowser commands the Ruined Dragon to attack the Odyssey. It is titled "Eye to Eye with the Ruined Dragon" in the Nintendo Music app.

All three arrangements are also included in the official Super Mario Odyssey Original Soundtrack album.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder features three arrangements of "Flying Battleship Theme".

A heavy metal arrangement of "Flying Battleship Theme" plays in all flying battleship levels: Fluff-Puff Peaks Flying Battleship, Petal Isles Flying Battleship, and Deep Magma Bog Flying Battleship. The intro is a loose adaptation of the theme's bassline, and the main melody is played on electric guitar. A remix of "Flying Battleship Theme" that adds horns to the main melody plays while the player is in their Elephant form. On the Nintendo Music app, the original and Elephant versions of "Flying Battleship Theme" are played in sequence on the same track.

A pastiche of "Flying Battleship Theme" plays during the boss battles against the Mecha Makers in the aforementioned flying battleship levels. It is titled "Mecha Maker Battle" in the Nintendo Music app.

Main article: Starry-Staff Wonder

The theme that plays during the game's staff credits quotes "Flying Battleship Theme" approximately 1 minute and 35 seconds in. It is titled "Starry-Staff Wonder" in the Nintendo Music app.

All three themes return in the Nintendo Switch 2 port, Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park, for the same purposes.
