Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]
- “This is a track from the original Mario Kart. We've used live instrumentation, but made every effort to retain a familiar feel to the sound.”
- —Liner notes in the Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack
In Mario Kart 8 and the Nintendo Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, an arrangement of "Donut Plains" arranged by Yasuaki Iwata plays in SNES Donut Plains 3. It is likewise titled "SNES Donut Plains 3" in the Nintendo Music app and the official Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack album. A looping drum set beat and a whistle are added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place. This is the only race course theme in either Mario Kart 8 or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to add a non-percussion instrument when frontrunning. In the Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack, the whistle from the frontrunning remix is added to the instrumentation for the second loop of the theme.
