"The Star Festival"[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Mahito Yokota for Super Mario Galaxy, where it plays during the Star Festival segment at the beginning of the game until Bowser attacks the Mushroom Kingdom and in the Grand Finale Galaxy mission "The Star Festival".

Super Mario Galaxy marks the first appearance of "The Star Festival".

An arrangement of "The Star Festival" is incorporated in the theme that plays in the cutscene after beating Grand Star Rescue. It is titled "To the Observatory Grounds 1" in the Nintendo Music app and the official Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album.

An arrangement of the theme by Mahito Yokota titled "Daybreak - A New Dawn" plays in the game's ending cutscene as Mario or Luigi reawakens in the reconstructed Mushroom Kingdom.

Both the original theme and its arrangements are featured on the Super Mario Galaxy Original Soundtrack album and return for the same purposes in the Nintendo Switch ports, Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, a medley arrangement by Mahito Yokota of "The Star Festival" and "Gusty Garden Galaxy" plays during the prologue when Mario visits the Star Festival. It is titled "A New Story" in the Nintendo Music app. It is featured on the Super Mario Galaxy 2 Original Soundtrack album and returns for the same purpose in the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.
