"Mine Cart Madness",[1][2] alternatively formatted as "Minecart Madness"[3] and also known as "THE CART LEVEL",[2][4] is a musical theme composed by David Wise, where it plays in the Mine Cart levels. It has since become a recurring theme in the Donkey Kong Country series.
History[edit]
Donkey Kong Country[edit]
In its first appearance in Donkey Kong Country, "Mine Cart Madness" plays in the game's two Mine Cart-riding levels: Mine Cart Carnage and Mine Cart Madness.
In the Game Boy Color remake of Donkey Kong Country and the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country, "Mine Cart Madness" is still present in the same levels. The former remake also has it play in Stop & Go Station, Misty Mine, and Loopy Lights, where the SNES and GBA versions of the game instead used "Misty Menace" for those levels. In each remake, it has a new arrangement adapted to the different hardware.
Donkey Kong Country Returns[edit]
Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as the Nintendo 3DS port, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and the Nintendo Switch port, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, features several arrangements of "Mine Cart Madness."
The first is a faithful rendition of the original song with extra jungle-inspired instruments, and plays in the Jungle level Crazy Cart.
The second, titled "Rickety Rails" in the music gallery, is a faster-paced rearrangement of the song that plays in the Cave levels Rickety Rails and Bombs Away. In the 3DS and Nintendo Switch ports, it also plays in the Cloud level Mischievous Moles.
The third, titled "Mine Cart Cruise" in the music gallery, is a faster-paced but mostly faithful rendition of the original song that plays in the Cave level Grip 'n' Trip.
The fourth, titled "Prehistoric Path" in the music gallery, is an even faster-paced rendition of the song with extra xylophones and other instrumentation from the Cliff world. It plays in the level of the same name, Prehistoric Path.
The fifth and final arrangement, titled "Lava Blitz" in the music gallery, is a remix of the arrangement heard in Prehistoric Path, but with low chants and other instrumentation from the Volcano world. It plays in the level Roasting Rails.
Donkey Kong Bananza[edit]
Donkey Kong Bananza features three arrangements of "Mine Cart Madness."
The first, titled "2D Challenge Course #3" in the game's sound test, is a faithful rendition of the song that plays in the Mine-Cart Country Challenge Course.
The second, titled "Planet Core: Mine-Cart Ride" in the game's sound test, is a more ominous arrangement of the song that plays when riding a Mine Cart between sublayers in the Planet Core.
The third, titled "Planet Core: Second Half" in the game's sound test, is a mostly original song that starts with a rendition of the previous arrangement.
