"Fear Factory,"[1][2] also known as "THE WAREHOUSE LEVEL,"[3] is a musical theme composed by David Wise for Donkey Kong Country. The theme incorporates elements of emerging genres of electronic music in the early 1990s, including industrial, Eurodance, and trance.[4]
History[edit]
Donkey Kong Country series[edit]
Donkey Kong Country[edit]
Fear Factory makes its first appearance in the original Donkey Kong Country, where it plays in Oil Drum Alley and Blackout Basement, the game's factory levels. The remake for the Game Boy Color and remake for the Game Boy Advance feature their own versions of the theme.
The game's Japanese soundtrack, Super Donkey Kong Game Music CD Jungle Fantasy, also features a unique arrangement of the theme created by Yoshiyuki Ito.
Donkey Kong Country Returns[edit]
Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as the Nintendo 3DS port, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and the Nintendo Switch port, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, feature two arrangements of "Fear Factory."
A faithful arrangement of "Fear Factory," titled "Factory Friction" in the music gallery, plays in the Factory levels Slammin' Steel, Handy Hazards, Gear Getaway, and Lift-off Launch. It also plays in the Cloud level Robo Factory in the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch ports.
An arrangement of "Fear Factory," titled "Automatic Action" in the music gallery, plays during the level Music Madness. This rendition is a lot more electronic compared to the original, with a focus on heavy percussion and synthesizers.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[edit]
In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its Nintendo Switch port of the same name, a more synthetic and foreboding arrangement of "Fear Factory," titled "Frozen Frenzy" in the music gallery, plays in the level of the same name.
