Slippy Spikes is the temple level of Donkey Kong Island in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its Nintendo Switch port, as well as the sixth and final temple level in the game overall. On the island map, the level is located on a small bluff, where the Golden Temple once stood in Donkey Kong Country Returns.

During this level, the Kongs are challenged to advance from platform to platform without touching down the floor or ceiling, as they are covered in spikes. Many platforms are coated with ice, creating difficulties in traction, and are either presented as pendulums swinging from one side to another, or as massive structures bobbing up and down on rails. The Kongs could slip off and fall onto the spikes on the floor, or be pushed by bobbing platforms against the spikes on the ceiling. Additionally, rails conducting spiky, electrical orbs are sometimes encountered along the way, especially at the beginning of the stage.

In Time Attack mode, a time of 1:51.00 is required to get a gold medal, a time of 2:16.00 for silver, and a time of 2:30.00 for bronze.

Overview[edit]

The level begins with a few icy pendulums, along with some spike orbs and a few Soaries. The next segment consists of an area with entire sections moving up and down, along with a few Speedy Tucks. After a few more icy pendulums, the Kongs will encounter two giant pendulums with a few Hootzes and some climbing walls. After an area with Tufftons, the Kongs will encounter more vertically-moving sections with some Hot Hootzes and Blue Hootzes, as well as a few Papa Painguins. A few climbing walls follow, along with a few spinning spike orbs and a Big Sphen. More spinning spike orbs follow, as well as a few Tucks. After a while, a long downwards slope follows, and by riding it, the Kongs must jump over any obstacles that appear. The slope leads directly to the mysterious relic.

Puzzle Pieces[edit]

  1. During the first set of icy pendulums, the Kongs must roll and jump in midair to collect the Puzzle Piece.
  2. The Kongs must pull the second Item Handle to reveal the Puzzle Piece.
  3. At the top of the left of the two giant pendulums, the Kongs must pound the purple vase and collect all bananas to unveil the Puzzle Piece.
  4. Just after the first few Papa Painguins, the Kongs must collect all bananas that appear on the subsequent climbing walls to unveil the Puzzle Piece.
  5. During the long slope, the Kongs must jump with precise timing to collect the Puzzle Piece.
