Leaping flames[1] are enemies in Donkey Kong Country Returns (as well as its Nintendo 3DS port and its Nintendo Switch port). They are encountered in Hot Rocket only, after the fireball bombard. As these fiery serpent-like monsters emerge from lava, they begin chasing the Kongs, who are riding on a Rocket Barrel, by revolving around them in a short distance. By doing so, the enemies attempt to cage the Kongs and limit their movement. If the Kongs crash their vehicle into one of the flames, the Kongs lose a life. The flames cannot be destroyed, and as they crowd around the Kongs, they become more difficult to avoid. After revolving several times, they move behind the Kongs.
