"Lockjaw's Saga (Lockjaw's Locker),"[1][2] also known as "Lockjaw's Saga"[3] and "Ship Hold,"[4] is a musical theme composed by David Wise, and a recurring theme in the Donkey Kong Country series. It first appears in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, where it serves as the background music for ship hold levels - Lockjaw's Locker, Lava Lagoon, and Glimmer's Galleon.
Arrangements[edit]
Donkey Kong Land 2[edit]
Donkey Kong Land 2 features a chiptune arrangement of "Lockjaw's Saga." In addition to playing in the ship hold levels like in Donkey Kong Country 2, it also plays on several more stages, particularly all ship deck (with the exception of Pirate Panic, which uses "Snakey Chantey") and ship mast levels, replacing "Klomp's Romp" and "Jib Jig" respectively.
Donkey Kong Country 2 (Game Boy Advance)[edit]
In the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country 2, an arrangement of "Lockjaw's Saga" plays in the same levels as the original. This rendition is much more compressed than the original and uses slightly different instrumentation.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[edit]
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, as well as its Nintendo Switch port of the same name, features three arrangements of "Lockjaw's Saga," all three of which play in the level Irate Eight. The first plays during the first underwater section of the level, and combines musical phrases from both "Lockjaw's Saga" and "Aquatic Ambiance." The second, titled "Irate Eight" in the music gallery, plays during the chase sequences with Squiddicus, and incorporates the main melody of "Lockjaw's Saga" played on horn. Finally, the third arrangement plays in the underwater section between the Squiddicus chase sequences, and is a more faithful arrangement of "Lockjaw's Saga."
The first and third arrangements also appear in the level Rockin' Relics, and play while underwater and above-water respectively.
