"Chill", also formatted as "CHILL",[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Hirokazu Tanaka for Dr. Mario, where it is one of two selectable themes that can play during gameplay, the other being "Fever". Compared to "Fever", "Chill" is less upbeat and more slow-paced.

History[edit]

Dr. Mario series[edit]

Dr. Mario (Nintendo Entertainment System)[edit]

The NES version of Dr. Mario marks the first appearance of "Chill", and it returns for the same purpose in the Classic NES Series port. It is also included in the official albums Famicom Sound History Series: Mario the Music and Nintendo Sound Selection Vol.3: B-Side Music.

Dr. Mario (Game Boy)[edit]

In the Game Boy version of Dr. Mario, an arrangement of "Chill" plays for the same purpose as in the NES version.

Tetris & Dr. Mario[edit]

Dr. Mario Online Rx[edit]

Dr. Mario Online Rx features two different arrangements of "Chill".

A faithful arrangement of "Chill" directly based on the Dr. Mario 64 version can play in the Dr. Mario mode.

A unique arrangement of "Chill" with a longer build-up and different melodic rhythm can play in the Virus Buster mode.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, an arrangement of "Chill" arranged by Masaaki Iwasaki can play in the Flat Zone 2 stage. It is titled "Chill (Dr. Mario)" in the game's sound test. This arrangement includes chiptune and hard rock elements, as well as a sitar-based section and vocal scatting.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, a chiptune/EDM-inspired arrangement of "Chill" arranged by Hirokazu Tanaka can play in the 75m stage. This theme also incorporates an arrangement of "Game Over" from the same game. It is titled "Chill (Dr. Mario) Ver. 2" in the game's sound test.

The Super Smash Bros. Brawl version of "Chill" also returns, which can play in the Flat Zone X stage. It is once again titled "Chill (Dr. Mario)" in the game's sound test.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, both the Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U versions of "Chill" can play in any Super Smash Bros.-series and Super Mario-series stage. They are titled "Chill (Brawl)" and "Chill (for 3DS / Wii U)" respectively in the game's sound test.

Mario Party: Star Rush[edit]

In Mario Party: Star Rush, the original NES version of "Chill" is featured as a playable song in Rhythm Recital. It is formatted as "CHILL".

The Super Mario Bros. Movie[edit]

In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a brief arrangement of "Chill" is incorporated in the track "Fighting Tooth and Veil", which plays during the scene of Mario flying up to Bowser's ship in his Tanooki form. It was arranged by Brian Tyler, and it is also included in the film's official soundtrack.

Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day![edit]

In Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day!, a calmer and slower-paced arrangement of "Chill" can play in the Virus Buster minigame. According to the game's host, Dr. Ryuta Kawashima, the music is intended to enhance the relaxation aspect of the minigame.[3]
