Nintendo Sound Selection Vol.3: B-Side Music is a compilation album exclusive to Club Nintendo members. Like the Healing Music and Loud Music soundtracks before it, the B-Side CD could be obtained from Club Nintendo only by redeeming 400 points. According to the CD's booklet, the songs picked for this CD are considered memorable tracks that are not typically considered title themes, likening it to the B-side of a singles record, and having more nuance that are preferred by more seasoned listeners. As such, the CD is themed after Luigi, who is often considered the B-side compared to the more well-known A-side that is Mario.

With over half of the CD containing Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario, and Donkey Kong tunes, the B-Side CD has more music related to the Super Mario franchise than any of the previous two volumes in the series. The Mario tracks are from Luigi's Mansion (one track includes Luigi's humming from the game), Super Mario Bros. 2, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, WarioWare: Touched!, Yoshi Touch & Go, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, Dr. Mario, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mario Kart 64, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Super Mario Sunshine, and Mario Artist: Talent Studio.
