"Northern Hemispheres,"[1][2] also known as "THE SNOW LEVEL,"[3] is a theme composed by Eveline Novakovic and is a recurring theme in the Donkey Kong Country series. It first appears in Donkey Kong Country, where it can be heard in the snow levels Snow Barrel Blast and Ice Age Alley.

Arrangements[edit]

Donkey Kong Country (Game Boy Advance)[edit]

In the Game Boy Advance remake of Donkey Kong Country, an arrangement of "Northern Hemispheres" plays in the same levels as the original version. This rendition is much more compressed than the original and uses slightly different instrumentation.

Donkey Kong Country Returns[edit]

Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as the Nintendo 3DS port, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and the Nintendo Switch port, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, features two arrangements of "Northern Hemispheres" that play in various levels in the Cliff world. The first, titled "Boulder Roller" in the music gallery, is an arrangement of the original song's second half, and plays during the levels Weighty Way and Precarious Plateau. The second, titled "Clifftop Concert," is an arrangement of the original song's first half, and plays during the levels Prehistoric Path, Boulder Roller, Crumble Canyon, and Tippy Shippy. Both arrangements are quite faithful to the original, and incorporate wood and wind instruments.

Oddly, "Boulder Roller" doesn't play on the level of the same name.
