"Special World (Map Screen)"[1] is a musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario World, where it plays during the overworld map of the Special Zone. If left playing for around two minutes, then a unique arrangement of "Ground BGM" from Super Mario Bros. will start playing.

Super Mario World[edit]

Super Mario World marks the first appearance of "Special World (Map Screen)". It returns for the same purpose in the port of the game included in Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World. It is also included in the official soundtrack album of the same name in its original form.

Mario Paint[edit]

In Mario Paint, "Special World (Map Screen)" is quoted in the second section of "Drawing Board 2", where it serves as background music for the drawing board.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe[edit]

The Game Boy Color remake of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, contains its own arrangement of "Special World (Map Screen)", which plays in the Mystery Room and "Yoshi Is Here!" menus in the Toy Box.

Mario Kart World[edit]

In Mario Kart World, a medley arrangement of "Yoshi's Island (Map Screen)", "Star World (Map Screen)", "Forest of Illusion (Map Screen)", "Donut Plains (Map Screen)", and "Special World (Map Screen)" can play in Free Roam. It is titled "Overworld Medley" in the game's pause menu.
