スーパーマリオワールド攻略こうりゃくまんがPARTパート1 (ボンボンばん)【ピーチひめ救出きゅうしゅっだい作戦さくせん) ~スターロード〜おうクッパのしろ~ (Super Mario World Strategy Manga Part 1 (Bonbon Version)【The mission to rescue Princess Peach】Star Road to Bowser's Castle)

Fired up, Mario enters the Bowser's Castle to defeat him once and for all. Yoshi tries to follow him, but the Koopa Troopas locks the Front Door's gate right on his foot, denying him entrance. As Yoshi massages his foot, a hooded figure jumps on his back and over the castle's walls. The Koopas mistakes the figure for Magikoopa, but they get beat up by the mysterious individual. Yoshi also is confused, until he sees behind a nearby rock a tied up and naked Magikoopa, guessing who the figure might actually be. Meanwhile, Mario is in front of four doors numbered 1 through 4. Behind the first one, is a room full of pillars, which Mario decides to avoid. Before he can check the second door, he gets scared by a silly-looking mechanical Koopa coming out from the third door. Checking it, it is a room full of tapestries and more of those Mechakoopas, which are produced right then and there by Wendy, Iggy, and the Bowser's Minions. Mario gets past the room, while a Ninji sees on the cameras that the Magikoopa-like figure is crossing the fourth room, but when he goes to inform Bowser that Magikoopa is apparently alive, the Koopa King shuts him up, since he is too busy creating a wooden cutout of Princess Peach.

Mario is now in front of four more doors, now numbered 5 through 8. Door 5 is full of Thwomps and Skewers. Pass. Door 6 is flooded and full of Dry Bones. Pass again. Door 8 is full of angry Chargin' Chucks. Still pass. Only one door left, full of apparently harmless Bowser Statues, unaware that the golden variety are able to jump towards him. Unbeknownst to Mario, the hooded figure hits the golden statues with his staff, getting their attention, and Mario crosses the room safely. Now in a dark room, Mario gets jumpy when a shadowy figure approaches. He hits a ON/OFF Switch, turning the lights on and the figure is revealed to be a Ninji, which Mario easily shoves aside, proceeding to the rooftop, where he sees Peach waiting him with open arms, but she is revealed to be a wooden cutout. Bowser, riding his Koopa Clown Car, with Peach beside him, laughs at his successful trap and the battle begins. From outside, Yoshi witnesses the battle, but then, one of the rescued eggs speaks and informs Yoshi that if Mario continues fighting he will die, but he explains that in a land beyond the sky there is a hint to beat Bowser, but he needs to hurry. Acting quickly, Yoshi pummels the Front Door's gate, in vain.

After dodging Bowser's Flames, Mario tries to pounce at him, but a magic barrier appears in front of the aircraft, shocking Mario. Peach faints, seeing Mario plummeting down, while the hooded figures arrives at the rooftop too and, removing the robe, he reveals to be Luigi and grabs Mario while holding onto the crenellation. Baffled, Bowser asks him how is he alive. Luigi explains that, when he jumped in the lava with Magikoopa, the latter teleported the both of them to safety at the last moment, then he took care of him, taking advantage of his shock. Luigi then tries to pull him and his unconscious brother up, while Bowser slowly approaches the propeller to his hand. Yoshi, still banging the gate to the point that his hands are bleeding, notices a Blue Shell that fell from the walls after Luigi attacked the Koopas, eats it, and with his winged form, rescues Mario and Luigi and takes them to the sky, crossing the air bubble around the Valley of Bowser and the sea of Dinosaur Land's gulf. Bowser regrets underestimating Yoshi, but sure that Mario will not come back for a round two, he declares himself the winner of this fight and gets ready to celebrate his and Peach's wedding.

Yoshi keeps traveling in the sky, until he finds the legendary Star World, a strange star that floats above Dinosaur Land. After landing, Luigi and Yoshi confirm Mario's conditions: he is dead. Luckily for them, Luigi has a 1-Up Mushroom with him, and revives his brother. Still thinking to be in the middle of the fight, Mario punches Luigi and Yoshi, but he quickly comes to his sense and Luigi recaps the situation. Now it is time to regroup and face Bowser again, but Mario is not so sure, claiming that he cannot do beat him this time. Disgusted that Mario is so quick to give up, Yoshi leaves and goes back to Dinosaur Land. Mario expresses that Yoshi is right, but right then, an old Yoshi approaches him, and tells him that there is a way to overcome this weakness: the old Yoshi gives them two strange exoskeletons and orders them to wear them, explaining that they will come off once they will be ready and their training finished. The exoskeletons are made out of springs, forcing their limbs to stretch and forcing them to fight the springs to not be left rigid. The old Yoshi then tells them to open "the way to the central hill".

In the first stage, filled to the brim with Rotating Blocks, the Mario Brothers make their way with Spin Jumps. At one point, the two finds a red Yoshi's Egg, from which a red Baby Yoshi hatches. He explains he is one of the legendary tricolored Yoshis from Star World and will aid in their journey. Mario and Luigi are happy to hear it, until they realize they have to carry him with them. In the second and third stages, the duo also finds the Blue and Yellow Baby Yoshis, both asking to be carried too. While distracted, a Lakitu sneaks behind them and throws Spinies at them. The Baby Yoshis eats them and grow into adult forms, showing off their powers. After clearing the last two stages, Luigi asks if they know what the supposed hint to beat Bowser is. The Yoshis tell them the prophecy of Yosshīdamusu, where Bowser's arrival is foretold, alongside the explanation of how he will take over Dinosaur Land, by flying and throwing Mechakoopas and Big Steelies. Understanding that this is Bowser's attack pattern, Mario is ready to fight him, but the old Yoshi (who is revealed to be Yosshīdamusu) appears, pointing out that the exoskeletons have not released them yet. He then opens a Star Road on top of the hill, which sucks the brothers and takes them to the Special Zone. Clearing all the stages of the area, Mario and Luigi comes face to face with an army of Sumo Brothers. Just then, the exoskeletons ding and release their wearer. Mario and Luigi are finally ready and strong enough to beat anyone. With one blow, the Sumo Brothers are defeated and Mario and Luigi are proclaimed "Super Players". Riding the three Yoshis, Mario and Luigi return to Dinosaur Land.

Back on Earth, Mario and Luigi witness how Bowser's domain has turned the fresh and green Dinosaur Land into a dead island and quickly fly in the Valley of Bowser. In the meantime, Bowser is exposing to Peach his plan to marry her, when he sees Yoshi waiting for Mario's return with the eggs. Later, Yoshi sees Mario's face and follows it, discovering too late that it was a masked Koopa and he entered Bowser's Castle, where he is then trapped in a glass case to be exposed as a trophy. With all his enemies (seemingly) dealt with, the wedding ceremony begins. Meanwhile, Mario, Luigi, and the Yoshis fly through Valley Fortress and defeat the Reznors. Their defeat is picked up by Wendy and Iggy, that quickly put the castle in lockdown, but Luigi manages to hold the gate of the Back Door, letting Mario in. After seeing what happened to Yoshi, Mario goes berserk and destroys the control room. Wendy has just the time to warn Bowser, and he quickly takes Peach in the Koopa Clown Car.

The rematch begins. Bowser summons the electric barrier, around his vehicle, so Mario tries to pass from below, but the propellers are in the way. For now, Mario resorts to dodging what Bowser throws at him. While juggling on a Big Steelie, Mario trips and accidentally kicks a Mechakoopa up in the air, and it lands on Bowser's head, hurting him. Having found a strategy, Mario keeps throwing Mechakoopas at him, so Bowser flies away, out of Mario's view, sneaks behind him and hits him with a Big Steelie. Preparing another one, Bowser is distracted by the arrival of Luigi and the tricolored Yoshis. Taking advantage of this, Peach grabs a Special Power-up Kinoko and passes it to Mario. Thanks to that, Mario turns big, grabs all the nearby Mechakoopas, ball them up and throws them at Bowser, then he jumps and perforates the Koopa Clown Car, blowing it up after catching Peach.

Dinosaur Land is restored to its natural glory, the native inhabitants are freed from Bowser's control, and while Mario, Luigi, and Peach ride the tricolored Yoshis to Yoshi's Island, Yoshi clumsily carries the Baby Yoshis that hatched from the rescued eggs.

Chapter 2

スーパーマリオワールド攻略こうりゃくまんがPARTパート2 (DXデラックスポンポンばん)【うらネタ・秘密ひみつルートへん】~おうクッパのたにおうクッパのしろ~ (Super Mario World Strategy Manga Part 2 (Bonbon Deluxe Version)【Tips and secret exits】Valley of Bowser to Bowser's Castle)

うらしまリおのまき (Under-Mario)

After destroying #6 Wendy's Castle occupied by Kootie Pie and King Koopa, Mario and friends believe to have taken back all Dinosaur Land from Bowser's clutches, when Mario sees the Baby Yoshis tormenting a Koopa. Mario pays the Baby Yoshi to leave the turtle alone, and the Koopa thanks him by offering him to take them to Ryūgū-jō, the mythological palace of the sea dragon god. The heroes accept and the Koopa carries them underwater, to a redecorated Valley of Bowser, leaving the guest unimpressed. A disguised Larry present himself as Oto-hime. After falling asleep from the boredom, Larry drops his disguise, takes a box from Magikoopa, and empties its content on the heroes: it is an aging powder that turns everyone (Larry and Magikoopa included) into old people. Mario is scared, but Peach and Yoshi have a solution: thanks to the reset button on the console, they can return to their last save point. With one click, the heroes are back on Chocolate Island's beach, much to old-men Larry and Magikoopa's surprise.

ヨッシ一だえマントがほしいんだのまき (Yoshi wants a cape)

The heroes access the Valley of Bowser. Larry sics against them Mega Moles and Swoopers, but the formers are trapped in a hole dug by Luigi, and the formers are defeated with a cape twirl after being confused when Mario and the others asks what is what of their faces. Impressed by Caped Mario's moves (and wanting to be praised by Peach) Yoshi goes to find a Cape Feather, but when he grabs it with his tongue, the one riding him (Luigi) is the one to get the Cape form. Luigi tries to comfort him by telling him he can fly with a Blue Shell, but Yoshi reiterates that he looks silly between the bloated cheeks and the flapping wings' sound. The situation turns in his favour when he finds a pair of Yoshi's Wings, but while he and Luigi flies in the Coin Heaven, Mario and Peach remind that he will be depressed again once he discovers that the unlimited flight in Winged form is only possible only in the Coin Heaven.

妖怪ようかいマリオのまき (Yokai Mario)

Next stop is Valley Ghost House. Yoshi is happy that he does not need to enter, but this makes the group question why. After talking about it, they come to the conclusion that Yoshi spies on them in the guises of an Eerie, and he is in cahoots with the ghosts. To confirm this theory, Mario, Peach, and Luigi attack Yoshi, but after beating him up, they realize they were wrong and the obvious conclusion is that he is scared of ghosts. Bruised and hurt, Yoshi plots revenge by sending a letter to Kitaro from GeGeGe no Kitaro to beat up the "Yokai Mario". Kitaro answers, but when he arrives, he mistakes Yoshi for the "Yokai Mario" and he is beaten up again. After a while, Mario and the others get out from the Ghost House and wonder where Yoshi has gone. The beaten and bruised Yoshi arrives, but he is mistaken for a monster and the heroes shoo him, much to his desperation.

カウントリフトはちるのサのまき (The Count-Lift is falling)

The heroes have arrived at Valley of Bowser 3, and Larry and Magikoopa are waiting by the goal, claiming that the only way to reach them is by using the Count-Lifts. Mario and Yoshi jump on a lift with a high number, but when it counts down to zero, the lift falls. Mario and Yoshi keep jumping from lift to lift, Luigi tries to cross the level balancing on the ropes that make the floor, and Peach tries to use the Count-Lifts too, but hers expires too and she falls. She lands on a diagonal rope and, sliding down it, she builds enough speed that she flings forward on another diagonal rope, crashing into the others and taking them with her. Larry tries to stop them by shooting Banzai Bills, but they bounce on their surfaces. Eventually, even Magikoopa and Larry are knocked down, leaving them hanging on a rope, and to stop, Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi grabs Peach by her legs and let her skirt glide them down like a parachute.

みずたまりにはったこおりにのるとれてぬれてしまうのはどうしてなの~のまき (Why does ice break in a puddle and wet me when I step on it?)

In the icy underground area of Valley of Bowser 4, the Mario Brothers start skating around, but when they invite Peach to skate too, when she steps on the ice, it cracks, leaving a puddle that soaks her skirt. Luigi almost laughs, getting pinched by Mario and vice versa, but they are both caught. Peach claims they were about to laugh because the ice cracked under her weight. To save themselves, Mario claims it was the fishes that laughs, inviting the others to look the water, but two Cheep Cheeps emerge right where the reflection of Mario and Luigi's face are making everyone, but the Cheep Cheeps and the Spike Tops laugh.

さいごの難関なんかん穴掘あなほりゴルのまき (The last challenge is digging a hole)

Continuing in Valley of Bowser 4, the group encounters some Diggin' Chucks that throws rocks at them. Yoshi tries to eat them, but chips his teeth. Mario calls them dung beetles and, offended, the Chucks throw at them their biggest "dung" they have: a massive boulder. While escaping, Mario and Yoshi find a key and a keyhole and escape from getting run over, while Luigi is not as lucky, and the boulder goes to crash right onto the Front Door of Bowser's Castle. Meanwhile, Larry and Magikoopa are still hanged on the rope of Valley of Bowser 3.

だい魔王まおうクッパの弱点じゃくてんは?のまき (What is Bowser's weakness?)

Entering the Back Door, the heroes see the spotlight's source, the mirror ball, and starts dancing like in a disco. Bowser, elegantly dress, enters and modestly asks them to stop doing such vulgar dances in his ballroom. Stricken by his fancy ways, the heroes fall for his act, and Peach asks for a dance after giving him some wine. Right after taking Peach's hand, Bowser drops the act and takes her hostage, but Mario asks him to carefully check: he is holding Luigi. The wine they gave him is highly alcoholic and he is unknowing dead drunk. Bowser release Luigi and claims he will kill everyone in the room, since Peach is not there, but looking carefully, he now sees four Peaches and all of them punch him square in the face, sending him flying. Recognizing Peach in the punch, Bowser leaves. With him gone, Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi drop their Peach disguises, and they all celebrate for freeing Dinosaur Land from Bowser's domain. Yoshi ends asking what will happen next, but the author is without an answer, seeing as his TV is broken. Meanwhile, Larry and Magikoopa are still hanging in Valley of Bowser 3.

Bonus[edit]

Mototin's Picture Diary[edit]

モトちんのスーパーファミコン(最近やってないの)絵日記えにっき IV (Mototin's Super Famicom (I haven't played with it recently) Picture Diary IV)

  • In college, Mototin was 165 cm tall and weighted 50 kg, no matter how much he ate, his ribs were easy to spot on his bare chest. By the time he started to make manga, he gained 20 kg, and 8 more after getting hooked on the Family Computer. However, Motitin was never worried: every mangaka has a particular appearance.
  • While working for Kodansha is good, being one of the few working in Comic BomBom office department gets a bit lonely.

Cameos from third-party characters[edit]

  • American Koopa: continuing from last volume, American Koopa, the manga version of King Koopa from the DIC Entertainment cartoons, is seen being cooked in a pot at the beginning of the first segment of the second chapter.
  • Oto-hime (Urashima Tarō tale): the first segment of the second chapter is heavily based on the Japanese folk fairy tale of Urashima Tarō, in which the fisherman saves a turtle bullied by some kids and is rewarded by being the guest of honor at the underwater palace Ryūgū-jō ruled by Oto-hime, unable to age, but upon returning home he discovers he lost everything and everyone, reobtaining his old age by opening a box given to him by the princess. Larry disguises as the princess to drop the content of the box onto the heroes, but it backfires.
  • Superman (DC Comics): in the second segment of the second chapter, dreaming of using the Cape Feather's powers, Yoshi imagines himself wearing Superman's outfit, with a「ヨ」(Yo), his initial, on the chest.
  • Kitarō, Sunakake Babaa, Konaki-Jijii, and Ittan-Momen (GeGeGe no Kitarō): in the third segment of the second chapter, Yoshi decides to play a prank on Mario for leaving him outside the ghost house by asking him for help, but the boy mistakes him for a rogue yokai and, with the help of his allies, beats Yoshi up.
