Mario 'n Me
The title card

Mario 'n Me is a promotional video and attraction featured at Nintendo's booth at the Summer Consumer Electronics Show, which was held in Chicago from June 1 to June 4 of 1991. Participants of the attraction would be recorded in front of a greenscreen, overlapping gameplay footage from Super Mario World; creating the illusion that the attendee is part of the game.[1] Additionally, the video opens with an original animated sequence featuring Mario, who is voiced by an unknown actor (which is verifiably not Charles Martinet).[2]

It appears that participants would receive a VHS copy of their personalized Mario 'n Me tape after its recording, though this is unconfirmed. A copy of a Mario 'n Me tape was uploaded to YouTube in 2011 by participant Rob Shultz, who appears within the customized tape itself.[2]

Description[edit]

After the title card, an image of the Earth from space with an image of Mario's face on it is shown. The camera zooms in and shows the McCormick Place Exposition Center, where Mario flies in riding a Super Nintendo Entertainment System. He says that being in Chicago is exciting and he "really likes CES", then notices an orange Warp Pipe and tells the viewer to go inside with him. Footage from Super Mario World of Mario going through the sub-area of Vanilla Dome 4 then plays, while the recorded participant is edited alongside him. After Mario exits the sub-area, the ending screen of the game is shown, with the actor waving goodbye to the viewer and Mario.
