"Koopalings BGM",[1] also known as "Fortress Boss"[2] or "Boss Music",[3] is a Latin-styled musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario World, where it plays during all boss battles (sans Bowser).

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario World[edit]

Super Mario World marks the first appearance of "Koopalings BGM", and it returns in the port of the game included in Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World for the same purpose. It is also included in the official album Super Mario World.

Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2[edit]

In the Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario World, Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, an arrangement of "Koopalings BGM" plays for the same purpose as in the original game.

In New Super Mario Bros. 2, an arrangement of "Koopalings BGM" arranged by Kenta Nagata plays during the boss battles against the Reznors.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

In Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Mario Maker 2, the original version of "Koopalings BGM" plays whenever the "Boss Music" sound effect is triggered in Super Mario World-style levels.

Super Mario World: Mario to Yoshi no Bōken Land[edit]

In Super Mario World: Mario to Yoshi no Bōken Land, the original version of "Koopalings BGM" plays in the scene where Iggy and his minions guard the bridge from Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi.

Mario's Time Machine[edit]

In the PC version of Mario's Time Machine, a brief arrangement of "Koopalings BGM" preceding an arrangement of "Castle BGM" from Super Mario World plays at the end of the opening cutscene.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, a flamenco arrangement of "Koopalings BGM" arranged by ACE (TOMOri Kudo / CHiCO) can play in the Mushroom Kingdom U and Super Mario Maker stages. It is titled "Fortress Boss (Super Mario World)" in the game's sound test. This arrangement uses acoustic guitar, brass, and accordion as main instruments, and features an original vocal and extended melody in the second half of the theme.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U version of "Koopalings BGM" can play in any Super Smash Bros.-series and Super Mario-series stage. It is titled "Fortress Boss - Super Mario World" in the game's sound test.

Mario Kart World[edit]

In Mario Kart World, a flamenco arrangement of "Koopalings BGM" can play in Free Roam during the day and on VS Race routes coming from Mario Bros. Circuit, Whistlestop Summit, Airship Fortress, Wario Shipyard, Cheep Cheep Falls, Dandelion Depths, Dry Bones Burnout, and Bowser's Castle.
