"Opening Melody"[1] is a lullaby-styled musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, where it plays during the game's opening cutscene.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island marks the first appearance of "Opening Melody".
An arrangement of "Opening Melody" plays during the ending cutscene when Yoshi defeats Baby Bowser and rescues Baby Luigi. It is titled "Rescuing Luigi" in the Nintendo Music app.
Both "Opening Melody" and "Rescuing Luigi" are also included in the official soundtrack album Super Mario: Yossy Island Original Sound Version. The former theme is also included in the official album Play it Loud! Original Soundtrack Volume 1.
In the Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, arrangements of "Opening Melody" and "Rescuing Luigi" arranged by Taiju Suzuki play for the same purposes as in the original game.

In Yoshi's Island DS, an arrangement of "Opening Melody" in F-sharp major plays in the opening cutscene.
Yoshi's New Island[edit]
In Yoshi's New Island, an arrangement of "Opening Melody" plays in the opening cutscene. A sped-up version plays when the stork realizes that he brought Baby Mario and Baby Luigi to the wrong house.

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, an upbeat, synth-focused medley arrangement of "Stage Start", "Flower Field BGM", "Opening Melody", and "Map Screen" from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island arranged by Yoshihito Yano can play in the Woolly World stage. It is titled "Yoshi's Island" in the game's sound test.
