"Opening Melody"[1] is a musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for the opening cutscene in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island marks the first appearance of "Opening Melody".

An arrangement of "Opening Melody" plays during the ending cutscene when Yoshi defeats Baby Bowser and rescues Baby Luigi. It is titled "Rescuing Luigi" in the Nintendo Music app.

Both "Opening Melody" and "Rescuing Luigi" are also included in the official soundtrack album Super Mario: Yossy Island Original Sound Version.

In the Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, arrangements of "Opening Melody" and "Rescuing Luigi" play for the same purposes as in the original game.

Yoshi's New Island[edit]

In Yoshi's New Island, an arrangement of "Opening Melody" plays in the opening cutscene. A sped-up version plays when the stork realizes that he brought Baby Mario and Baby Luigi to the wrong house.

Tetris Attack (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)[edit]

The SNES version of Tetris Attack features three arrangements of "Opening Melody".

An arrangement of "Opening Melody" plays during Yoshi's stage in all modes except VS. mode.

A fast-paced arrangement of "Opening Melody" plays during Yoshi's stage when the stack of panels are about to reach the top of the screen.

An arrangement of "Opening Melody" plays in the Game Over screen.

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, an upbeat, synth-focused medley arrangement of "Stage Start", "Flower Field BGM", "Opening Melody", and "Map Screen" from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island can play in the Woolly World stage. It is titled "Yoshi's Island" in the game's sound test, and it was arranged by Yoshihito Yano.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, "Yoshi's Island" from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U can play in any Super Smash Bros.-series and Yoshi-series stage. It is titled "Yoshi's Island (for 3DS / Wii U)" in the game's sound test.

Mario Kart World[edit]

In Mario Kart World, an arrangement of "Opening Melody" can play in Free Roam. It is simply titled "Opening Melody" in the game's pause menu.

The Talking Super Mario Animated Stickers LINE set features an excerpt of "Opening Melody" that plays over a sticker of Yoshi trying to cheer up a crying Baby Mario.

Super Nintendo World[edit]
