"Boss Battle"[1] is a musical theme in Super Mario Sunshine, where it plays during the boss battles against Petey Piranha in Bianco Hills, Gooper Blooper in Ricco Harbor, Wiggler in Gelato Beach, King Boo in Sirena Beach, and Eely-Mouth in Noki Bay. This theme has since mainly been used as a leitmotif for Gooper Blooper in subsequent games in the Super Mario franchise.

Super Mario Sunshine[edit]

Super Mario Sunshine marks the first appearance of "Boss Battle", and it returns in the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario 3D All-Stars, for the same purpose. It is also included in the official Super Mario Sunshine Original Soundtrack album.

In Mario Power Tennis and the Wii port, New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis, an arrangement of "Boss Battle" arranged by Motoi Sakuraba plays in Gooper Blooper Volley.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games[edit]

In the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, an arrangement of "Boss Battle" plays during the boss battle against Gooper Blooper in the Dream Rafting event. It is titled "Dream Rafting: Gooper Blooper (Super Mario Sunshine)" in the game's sound test.

In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a brief arrangement of "Boss Battle" arranged by Brian Tyler plays when Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi battle Wonder Bowser Jr. in Peach's Castle. It is titled "Under Siege" in the film's official soundtrack.

  • Due to a glitch, if the player presses the Z Button button as soon as Wiggler is defeated and is beginning to turn into sand, the music will slow down even more than in normal gameplay.[4]
