The Sightseeing outfit is an outfit worn by Mario, which is composed of sunglasses and a sky-blue tropical shirt with a Shine Sprite pattern.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario Sunshine[edit]
The outfit first appears unnamed in Super Mario Sunshine. It can be received by a sunglasses vendor, a Pianta that appears throughout the game's locations. Initially, the vendor only provides Mario with the outfit's sunglasses, which cause the screen to become slightly darkened. After Mario defeats Bowser, the sunglasses vendor also provides Mario with the outfit's shirt, which has no unique effect.
Mario retains his standard attire for the game under the outfit, including his cap, overalls, short-sleeved undershirt, and shoes. The short sleeves would carry over to future games as part of the outfit despite not being retained in Mario's typical design.
The sunglasses are not available in the Pianta Village missions that take place at night. If the conditions for both parts of the outfit are met, the vendor will supply Mario with both simultaneously; in other words, Mario cannot choose to only wear one part of the outfit when both conditions are met. Mario can speak to the vendor at any time to return the sunglasses and shirt.
Super Mario Odyssey[edit]
The sunglasses and shirt make their debut as a proper outfit in Super Mario Odyssey, where they were added as a special outfit in an update released in February 2018. The outfit is composed of the Sunshine Shades and Sunshine Outfit, which can be purchased from Crazy Cap for 1500
and 3000
, respectively. When Cappy is thrown, the sunglasses become temporarily worn by Cappy, who retains his Mario Cap appearance. The Art of Super Mario Odyssey refers to the entire outfit as the Sunshine Shades and Outfit.
Mario Kart series[edit]
Mario Kart Tour[edit]
In Mario Kart Tour, starting with the 2020 Los Angeles Tour, Mario wearing the outfit appears as a driver named Mario (Sunshine). His special skill is the Giant Banana.
Mario Kart World[edit]
The outfit returns in Mario Kart World under its current name and can be transformed into and unlocked when Mario eats ice cream, fruit barrel, pizza, and fritters & potatoes Dash Food. While wearing the outfit, Mario now sports jorts, sandals, and a backwards-facing baseball cap. Additionally, Mario no longer wears his gloves or shirt while wearing the outfit.
Hello, Mario![edit]
In Hello, Mario!, when the game starts, the outfit's sunglasses have a chance of appearing on Mario. The player can also cause Mario to gain the sunglasses by tapping on Mario's eyes repeatedly.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie[edit]
In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the outfit's shirt appears among other outfits in Mario and Luigi's wardrobe, which is shown when they return with Yoshi to the Mushroom Kingdom. In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Easter Egg Hunt, the shirt was listed as an Easter egg to spot with the hint "Tropical".
Unused appearances[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
Mario wearing the tropical shirt appears as an unused model in the code of Super Mario Galaxy.
