McDonald's is an American fast food chain founded in 1940. While McDonald's has held multiple Super Mario-themed promotions through their line of Happy Meals, McDonald's has also occasionally held promotions not tied to said line of meals.

Promotions[edit]

In 1990, McDonald's distributed a line of LCD game watches titled "Super Mario Bros. Watch". Three watches were released in total, these being Mario's Egg Catch, Luigi's Hammer Toss, and Princess Toadstool's Castle Run. The watches were released in both America and Japan. In Japan, a scratch-off promotion for Super Mario World was held that featured these watches as some of the possible prizes.

In the mid-1990s, McDonald's hosted Nintendo 64 kiosks. The kiosks were released in various designs. One of the designs allowed two players to play, and another allowed a total of four players to play on two separate kiosks. Some of the games featured included Super Mario 64 and Mario Party 3. In the 2000s, McDonald's would later install Nintendo GameCube kiosks. Super Mario Sunshine was one of the available games. Again, at least two players were able to play on one kiosk.

In the late 2000s, McDonald's allowed players to connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for free.[1] This ability was referenced by Nintendo of Japan in the WarioWare: D.I.Y. article Shitsumon Corner by Wario.

In 2017, The McPlay mobile application's "Explore a digital book" section featured a book based on the Super Mario franchise titled Go! Mario and Friends.

In 2026, McDonald's released a menu themed after The Super Mario Galaxy Movie alongside a Happy Meal promotion in select regions.[2] The menu items are listed below:

  • Power-Ups Sauces - three sauces themed after Super Mushrooms, ? Blocks, and Fire Flowers, respectively. Said sauces are mushroom-flavored, jalapeño-flavored, and "mystery-flavored" (yogurt and lemon flavor).
  • Star Snackers - a set of five or three bread crumb covered fingers filled with cheese.
  • McFlurry Caramel Popcorn - a McFlurry topped with caramel flavored popcorn and caramel sauce with Luma branding on the cup.
  • Blue Milkshake - a blue cookie flavored milkshake with whipped cream.

In addition, the menu also comes with a golden coin with one of four possible designs: a Yoshi's Egg, a Luma, an 8-bit Fire Flower, and Rosalina's Storybook. Five Red Coin variants of these coins will also be randomly distributed in the meals. Customers finding one of these Red Coin variants will win a week-long vacation for four people to Universal Orlando.[3]
