- Question:
- I'm not good at drawing, what should I do?
- (Koara, male, 14 years old)
- Penny's Answer:
- Even if you think your drawing is bad, other people might think it's "fun!" I think it's best to draw with confidence, like Wario! If you're really not good at drawing, you can also "call up" the pictures from the sample game!
- Question:
- Everyone told me that the game I made wasn't fun, so please tell me the secret to making a fun game.
- (Annie, female, age 11)
- Penny's Answer:
- I don't know if it will turn out to be a fun game, but there are three things I always keep in mind when making games. They are "ease of understanding," "a good response," and "just the right level of difficulty."
- "Ease of understanding" is important. Since it's a five-second game, players need to be able to understand the rules in an instant.
- And "a good response" is the feeling you get when you play. For example, I think it'll feel great if you can hit the "moment" with a bang at the exact moment you think it's the right moment.
- It's also important to make the game just the right level of difficulty. As you make a game, you tend to get used to it and end up making it too difficult. So, a game that you feel is "a little too easy" might be just right for first-time players.
- Question:
- How do I use Wi-Fi?
- (Wario, male, age 9)
- Wario's Answer:
- Apparently you can even get Wi-Fi at McDonald's these days! Grab your Nintendo DS and the "Made in Ore" game and head to McDonald's!
- Question:
- Are the games at Ninten Game Shop paid? Can I download samples of the game music and sound effects somewhere?
- (Kendo, male, 49 years old)
- Wario's Answer:
- Only games can be downloaded from "Game Shop Ninten," but for those who have purchased :"Made in Ore" or "[{WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase|Asobu Made in Ore]]," I, the most generous person in the universe, have made all of them "free to download"! Be grateful!
- Question:
- Among games, there are some that sell well and some that don't. What is the difference?
- (Dreamer, male, age 12)
- 9-Volt's Answer:
I'll answer this question. Basically, I think if you make something that everyone in Diamond City thinks is fun, it will sell a lot, but I think I'll buy games that are made with care, like Nintendo games. Even if a game isn't a huge hit right away after it's shipped, if it continues to sell little by little over the course of three months... it might become a huge hit!!
- Question:
- Hello. I'm trying to play "Mario Paint" with my voice, but I don't know what to do. Please tell me what to do.
- (Kageusu-kun, male, 10 years old)
- 9-Volt's Answer:
- This is a secret trick in Game Creator. To do it, while you're creating a game in Game Creator, go to "Settings" and "Edit" the "Game Name," delete the current game name, then enter "Mario Paint" and press "OK." After this, when you enter the "Drawing" screen...the background music from Nintendo's classic game, "Mario Paint," will play!! You can just change the proper "Game Name" before shipping, so I always use this secret trick when I want to change things up.
- Question:
- I can't think of what kind of game I should make... The more I think about it, the more confused I become. How can I come up with a good idea without worrying? Please, if you have any good advice, please let me know!
- (Misa Misa, female, age 11)
- Penny's Answer:
- I often find myself struggling to decide what kind of game to make, but when that happens, I just look up a word in the dictionary and make a game from a word that catches my eye! There are also other ways to do this, like making a game about something that happened today, getting requests from friends, or making a game about your hobbies... there are so many ways to do it! To start with, why not try entering the "Contest" at "Game Shop Ninten"?
- Question:
- This has nothing to do with game development, but is it okay to submit a collaborative work with a friend to a contest? Of course, I have my friend's permission. What do you think?
- (Alto, female, 18 years old)
- Penny's Answer:
- Have you got permission from your friends to enter the contest? If so, I don't think there's any problem! Go ahead and create games with your friends and enter them!
- Question:
- Why is it so funny? It's making my studies difficult (lol)
- (Machio, male, 16 years old)
- Penny's Answer:
- Drawing pictures is fun, and making music is also really fun! Also, "assembling" is kind of like "arithmetic," but I get so absorbed in it. Before you know it, you might be getting smarter!
- Question:
- It's difficult to make games on my own, so is there an easier way to make games? Once I've made a game, I'd like to enter it in a contest.
- (Ichigo, female, 11 years old)
- Penny's Answer:
- Why not start by getting used to making games with Wario Company's Baitobeya? Once you get the hang of it, it's fun to try changing the graphics in Diamond Soft's games or changing the AI to make your own original game! Once you understand a lot, try entering a contest with a game you've made from scratch!
- Question:
- If there is a mistake in a game that has already been shipped, how can I fix it?
- (Marie, female, age 9)
- Wario's Answer:
- Hahaha, I'll teach you a secret ultra technique for free. Even if you've already shipped a game, just press "Summon" in Game Creator, fix the mistakes, and then hit "Ship" again, and you'll be able to ship the game with the mistakes fixed! Well, I'm always perfect, so I don't need this technique!
- Question:
- How can we create an AI that can clear the game without doing anything?
- (Haruru, male, age 11)
- Young Cricket's Answer:
- It’s true that if you don’t do anything, the game ends in ‘failure’… Hmm, that’s it! I’m pretty sure I saw this ‘technique’ in ‘Assembly Dojo’ as Technique 18!
- Question:
- I'm trying to make a game where someone gets sucked up by a vacuum cleaner, but when the vacuum cleaner and the garbage overlap, I want the AI to make a sound, but all I get is a "zugagagagagagagaga" sound of the vacuum cleaner getting stuck. How should I set up the AI...?
- (Chim, male, age 9)
- Penny's Answer:
- The AI trigger "Bump - Overlapping" will cause the action "Sound of Impact" to be played "many times" while the objects are overlapping. That's why it makes such a loud "Zugagagagaga" sound. If you only want the "Sound of Impact" to be played once when the objects overlap, just use the trigger "Bump - Collided"!
- Question:
- Hello. How can I move a robot while it remains attached to another robot? This question is causing me a lot of trouble when creating a mini game. Please help.
- (Massa LVX, male, 11 years old)
- Penny's Answer:
- When setting the initial state of the AI, if you choose ‘Follow another object’ in response to the question ‘Where is the object?’, then just select the object you want it to follow and you’re good to go!
- Question:
- How can I change the time to succeed, like in a quiz? I don't know how to do it even if I change the timing...
- (Hayato Koyama, male, 12 years old)
- Young Cricket's Answer:
- There's a way to turn the switch on using the animation's "Regeneration" as a trigger! This way, you can do things like "Regeneration" a few seconds after pressing the button. Practice with "Move 10" in the "Building Dojo"!
- Question:
- I can't fit five AIs into my game. What should I do?
- (Guberg, male, 11 years old)
- Penny's Answer:
- When creating a character with a variety of movements, it's true that five AIs may not be enough. In such cases, why not try splitting one character into two or three units? You can also prepare two units with the same image and swap them using "Action - Location Change" to use roughly twice as many AIs!
- Question:
- I want to make a big sword, but when I put the swords together, the shapes don't match... What should I do?
- (Hata, male, 12 years old)
- Penny's Answer:
- You want to join several pieces together to make a larger piece, right? In that case, it's a good idea to use the outline as a rough draft.
First, draw a picture of the large piece on the outline. Then, when you turn on "Outline Display" when drawing the piece animation, you should be able to faintly see the outline you just made. By tracing the outline drawing while adjusting the position of the pieces, you should be able to create the piece you want. It takes a little bit of effort, but please give it your best shot.
- Question:
- How can I change the content each time I play?
- (iiiiiii Male, 12 years old)
- Young Cricket's Answer:
- I think you can do this using ‘Random’! Try using the trigger ‘Time – Roughly’ effectively. I learned this ‘technique’ as Technique 27 in the ‘Assembly Dojo’!
- Question:
- The transparent parts of the "Battai" picture don't seem to have any touch or collision detection, so I'm being careful when using them, but could you please explain exactly why?
- (Hagu, male, 0 years old)
- Penny's Answer:
- I asked my grandpa, and he said that the transparent, uncolored parts of the buttai are empty, so you can't "bump" or "touch" them. So, when drawing a buttai with a mesh pattern, you might end up with a buttai that's difficult to touch unless you paint the transparent parts with some color.
Question:
- The number of "Software by That Person" games in the game section of "Game Shop Ninten" hasn't increased recently. So please increase the number of "Software by That Person."
- (Masakazu, male, 13 years old)
- 9-Volt's Answer:
- “This is a rumor I heard in Diamond City, but it seems that maybe in the future a game by ‘That Person Across the Sea’ might be released! Whether it’s true or not, we’ll have to keep checking ‘Game Shop Ninten’!”
