Super Mario Bros. 3

Super Mario Bros. 3 is a short-lived Super Mario–franchise manga based on the eponymous game. It was written by Yukio Sawada and is a direct continuation of his Super Mario Bros. 2 manga. There are only two chapters; the first was published in the Wanpakku Comic issue of December 1988. The second chapter was in the following month's issue, the last one published before the cancellation of Wanpakku Comic. Because of its brevity, it was never republished in tankōbon format.

Sawada was also making, at the same time as this manga, another Super Mario Bros. 3–based manga for Gakushū Yōchien (学習幼稚園) published by Shogakukan, which just finished publishing his previous Super Mario work, Miracle Peach.

Sawada would also try to give this adaptation a proper closure: in the Super Mario World arc of Super Mario-kun, Sawada brings back the Super Mario Bros. 3 enemies in two separate chapters, ending in a confrontation with Koopa 3, Bowser's Super Mario Bros. 3 counterpart.

Stage 1Edit

ボうちはマリオときょうくなる!!あい勇気ゆうきよ、ふるて!! (I'll get strong with Mario! Love and courage, come forth!)

Mario dreams about being a flying raccoon, but when a Para-Goomba overwhelms him with Micro-Goombas, Mario wakes up. Later, a citizen from Grass Land transformed into a pig arrives at the Mario Bros.' House: recently the kings of the Mushroom World, have been robbed of their Magic Wands by the Koopalings, who turned them and the citizens into animals. Mario and Luigi go to Peach's Castle, where Toad gives them a mushroom and Kuribō joins them in their journey.

While on their way to traveling to Grass Land, a magic orb flies down from the sky and zaps Kuribō, brainwashing him into serving Bowser. Kuribō also grows wings and starts spewing Micro-Goombas, just like in Mario's dream. Right then, one of the Hammer Bros Kyōdai appears, him too hypnotized by the magic orb (which is revealed to be Bowser's brainwashing spell), joining the beating. Thanks to Toad's mushroom, Mario is powered-up and gets rid of the Micro-Goombas, then, with a fireball, he defeats the Hammer Brother. As he gets defeated, the Hammer Brother throws a hammer in the air and hits a ? Block, from which comes out a Super Leaf. Mario grabs it and transforms in Racoon Mario.
