The book shares a title with another book, which is based on the game Super Mario Bros.

Plot synopsisEdit

Mario and Luigi meet Daisy at the Riverfront Café where she makes a phone call to New York University to increase security at the excavation site. Luigi asks Daisy to join him, Mario, and Daniella for dinner at an Italian restaurant. After dinner, Luigi and Daisy walk to the excavation site so that she can show him dinosaur fossils. While at the excavation site, the two hear noises in the tunnel, and the Mario Bros. enter Koopa Square after traveling to Dinohattan via a cosmic vortex. Spike and Iggy manage to kidnap Daisy and bring him to President Koopa, but forget the pendant she is wearing. The Mario Bros. are then arrested, with the two sitting in the back of the police car as the police officers take them to the police department for questioning. Koopa interrogates the Mario brothers and demonstrates the devolving process on Toad, with a Goomba being the result.

Later, Mario tries to get the pendant from Big Bertha, but just as he does, Lena snatches it from him, giving her the power to merge the parallel dimensions together. While the Mario Bros. are surrounded by garbage after jumping into a Sludge Gulper to escape the Goombas, Daisy is in Koopa's suite in Koopa's Tower making friends with Yoshi. Spike and Iggy introduce Daisy to her royal father, who had been devolved into fungus by Koopa. Meanwhile, Mario and Luigi hang from hooks in the ventilation shaft. While Koopa tries to keep Lena from starting the merging process, Daisy introduces Luigi to her father. The Mario Bros. are overwhelmed by the prospect of being caught by the Goombas and by the amount of devolved fungus that seems to be everywhere.

Mario finds Daniella and the other missing women in the dormitory, and he, his friends, and the women escape on a mattress through the ducts in the tower's ventilation system. Lena jams the pendant into the slot of a meteorite to beginning the merging of the two dimensions, with a sudden wave of energy shooting out and instantly disintegrating her. Koopa tries to defend himself, but Mario has the fungus on his side. He then devolves Koopa with a Devolution Gun. While Daisy and Luigi successfully pull the pendant from the slot in the meteorite to stop the merging, Mario shields himself with a mushroom that devolved into a larger mushoom when Koopa fired at it.

CharactersEdit

Differences from the filmEdit

  • The book starts at the scene where Mario and Luigi meet Daisy at the excavation scene, and ends at the scene where Luigi and Daisy pull the pendant from the slot in the meteorite, omitting all scenes before and after.
  • The Riverfront Café is referred to as the "River Cafe."
  • President Koopa is never referred to by his full name, only being referred to simply as "Koopa."
  • Toad's role is significantly reduced from the film, where he only appears as part of Koopa's demonstration of the Devo Chamber to the Mario Bros.
  • Koopa's Tower is referred to as the "Koopa Tower."

Notable mistakes and errorsEdit

  • On page 2, the book incorrectly capitalizes "Italian restaurant" as "Italian Restaurant."
