Website description[edit]
- Hit the court with Mario and pals in this all-action sports game from Square Enix. Making full use of the unique Nintendo DS control system, the fresh, accessible gameplay will delight sports fans and Mario devotees alike.
Transcript[edit]
- The combination of the Nintendo DS Touch Screen and +Control Pad means you've never had this much control over the ball before. Shield the ball from the opposition and outsmart them with some nifty footwork, all using the intuitive controls only possible on the DS. Stop your player being blocked, barged and tackled with some deft moves. See a teammate in space, and a simple stroke of the stylus will pass them the ball. You can even lay-up the ball for a teammate to score with a stylish slam-dunk.
- Pick your own team from an all-star cast of Nintendo favourites. Mario, Luigi, Daisy and Bowser are all present and correct along with many more. Fans of Square Enix, the developers of the Final Fantasy series, will also recognize familiar faces from some of their top titles who appear as playable characters.
- Each character has their own strengths and skills. Build a team with a combination of abilities that suits your own playing style. Perhaps you like the tricky, skillful play of Daisy and the solid all-round abilities of Luigi; or maybe you prefer the more straight-forward approach and brute strength of Donkey Kong or Wario.
- Each character has their own special move which can be unleashed using a unique sequence of taps of the stylus. Fire Shots, Bomber Dunks, Graffiti Shots All of these and many more can be discovered, complete with great animated cut-scenes showing the moves in all their glory.
- Collect coins to boost your score and gather power-ups to throw a spanner in the works of your rivals. There's nothing like a good lightning bolt to give the other team a shock. Or maybe a well-aimed shell, bomb or banana skin will shake things up!
- A range of single player modes mean you can enter tournaments, play exhibition matches, enjoy a variety of mini-games or work on your shooting and dribbling skills in the practice mode. If you want to test yourself against your friends, up to four players can take to the court with wireless multiplayer. Earn points by defeating other players and steadily improve your ranking, which will be saved so you can pick up where you left off. You can also go head-to-head with your pals in mini-games like the Dribble Race and Coin Hunter.
- As you progress through the game and win tournaments, you can unlock more playable characters and arenas. There is a hugely-varied range of match locations, each with their own pitfalls and perils. Watch out for the ghosts in Luigi's Mansion, dodge pirates' water cannons on Koopa Beach and even find out what it's like to play basketball underwater!
- Hardened sports fans who want something slightly out-of-the-ordinary will love the sheer originality of this title as well as the sophisticated ball control the game offers. At the same time, players who wouldn't normally try sports games will love the accessibility of the gameplay and the sheer variety of the characters, power-ups and fun features on offer.
- Mario Slam Basketball goes way beyond what other sports title can offer. So master the special moves, tricks and techniques that will leave your opponents reeling. Join forces with Mario and co. and become king of the court, only on Nintendo DS.
