Mario no Badge Jiman Contest was an online contest held in Japan in the early 2000s to promote Paper Mario. For the contest, participants were to submit a unique combination of badges that were intended to be used in specific scenarios (such as easily beating bosses or quickly recovering Flower Points). A copy of Janjan Club 22 Mario Story was given out to each of the five contest winners,[1] all of whom were chosen via a lottery system. Five pages of entries were published on the contest's website, with characters appearing in Paper Mario making commentary on the effects of each combination. Each combination is shown in a table.

A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Nandemo Koi-gata Hiroki Takaba This is a badge setup that works against any kind of enemy. For strong enemies, use Power Jump or Multibounce. For weak enemies, wipe them out with Quake Hammer. Enemies on the ceiling? Attack them with Hammer Throw. Since you've equipped Quick Change, you can switch partners quickly depending on the foe. And even if you use two items thanks to Double Dip, the Refund effect gives you coins back, very well thought out.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Tottemo Happī‑gata Satomi Kasai It's wonderful that you equipped four total Happy Heart and Happy Flower badges, they really give off a cheerful, lucky feeling. Of course, since your HP and FP steadily recover during battle, you can fight with peace of mind. With Feeling Fine, you won’t suffer status conditions even from special enemy attacks. And any enemy that hits you gets payback from Zap Tap!
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Koppa Yattsuke‑gata Haruhito Sugiura Gnnnuu! This setup clearly understands me very well. Your only attack is Mega Smash, powered up by All or Nothing. Everything else, Damage Dodge, Pretty Lucky, Dodge Master, Last Stand, is focused on reducing the damage you take. And you even equipped Fire Shield to weaken my flame attacks... With this, even I would be in trouble.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Tottemo Happī‑gata Satomi Kasai This one looks especially effective against boss characters. The plan seems to be powering up your attack with the Charge‑S badges, then striking with Power Jump or Mega Smash. With Deep Focus and Power Plus P, you'll likely use Star Spirit abilities too. And since you equipped Pretty Lucky, my attacks might even miss you. Uuunnnu... quite a formidable setup indeed.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Renzoku Jump‑gata Kenji Matsuoka This setup is all about Multibounce. You're already boosting your attack with two Power Plus badges, plus Double Pain and All or Nothing, and then you raise it even further with S. Jump Charge so you can unleash a massive Multibounce strike. And since you equipped HP Drain, Mario recovers HP every time he stomps an enemy. If you combine it with my Goombario Charge and Multibonk, it becomes the strongest attack combo!
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Tonikaku Fuyēru‑gata Yui Iwamoto Since you equipped three HP Plus and three FP Plus badges, you're clearly trying to raise your maximum HP and FP as much as possible. With this setup, even big hits won't shake you, and you can use tons of moves. Oh, and since you equipped Deep Focus Partner, make sure you check out the pose I strike when I'm wishing!
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Pawafuru‑gata Takumi Fukai‑kun I love how many powerful moves you've included, Power Smash, Mega Quake, Triple Dip, they all hit hard. Sometimes going all‑out with attacks just feels great. Boosting your power with Power Plus, Double Pain, and All or Nothing is a nice touch too. If you combine all that with my explosive attacks, any enemy will go down instantly. Don’t worry about the remaining FP, go big or go home!
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Supin Kyōka‑gata Shōgo Isoyama This is a setup focused on strengthening your Spin Dash. Speedy Spin increases your movement distance, but it also makes it easier to bump into enemies. However, since you equipped Spin Smash and Spin Attack, you can defeat weak enemies without entering battle, and even strong enemies will be dizzy once the battle starts. It's a nicely balanced build that uses very little BP.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Damage de Coin‑gata Kanji Shimada So this setup is all about collecting lots of coins. Sure, with Pay-Off, the more damage you take, the more coins you get, but using Double Pain to intentionally increase the damage you take just to earn more coins... Could it be that you actually enjoy taking damage? If that’s the case, I'd be happy to smack you around as much as you like. Ohohohohoho!
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Tsurunuki‑gata Tetsuo Fukushima You didn't equip any command‑type badges except Power Jump and Power Smash, so you're really committed to piercing attacks, aren't you? With two Power Plus badges, your attack power is totally solid. And with Damage Dodge and Last Stand, your defense is covered too. If you use piercing attacks together with me, Watt, the destructive power will be amazing!
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Setsuyaku‑gata Hitoko Hoshiyama I like this setup, it's really efficient. Switching between Power Jump and Mega Jump depending on the enemy saves FP, and with Quick Change, you can swap partners for the most effective attack. The recovery from Happy Flower and HP Drain is also nice, letting you slowly regain HP and FP. It really feels like a build that covers every little need.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Denjarasu‑gata Ryōta Kikuchi This setup only activates when your HP is low. And since you equipped All or Nothing, if you miss the action command, you deal no damage at all, a truly dangerous build. You've also stacked lots of Lucky‑type badges, which is cool. It pairs perfectly with my Cloud Nine. Let's enjoy the thrill of dodging enemy attacks, or not!
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Negai yo Todoke‑gata Hitomi Inuishi Since you equipped three Deep Focus badges and also Deep Focus Partner, you're clearly trying to make Star Spirit powers easier to use. The Star Spirits really are reliable, after all. Your other badges are also very well balanced. With this setup, you'll be able to shine no matter the situation. Ahh... I wish I could be as helpful as Mario and the Star Spirits someday.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Flower Kodawari‑gata Naoto Inami You raise your maximum FP with FP Plus, reduce FP costs with Flower Saver, and recover spent FP with two Happy Flower badges. This one is really devoted to FP. With this setup, even big moves like Mega Jump, Mega Smash, or Mega Quake won't drain your FP too much. Very clever, nicely thought out.”
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Iroiro Fumii‑gata Naoki Kobayashi Your plan is to inflict status conditions with Shrink Stomp, Sleep Stomp, and Dizzy Stomp, then attack while the enemy is helpless. A bit sneaky, but very effective. It's also good that you equipped Fire Shield and Spike Shield so you can stomp any kind of enemy. And using Runaway Pay to earn Star Points even when fleeing, sneaky again, but effective all the same.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Baraeti‑gata Shūsaku Hayashi This setup lets you use a wide range of techniques. In battle, choosing the right move for the situation is essential. Among these, Triple Dip seems especially key to victory. If you can master all these techniques freely, no enemy will stand a chance. And if you ever want to polish your skills further, you're welcome at my dojo anytime.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Coin Atsume‑gata Chie Watanabe Hey there, how’s it going? So this setup is all about collecting coins, huh. The key is the combo of Money Money and Bump Attack, with those, you can get extra coins just by touching weak enemies. And since you've got the Speedy Spin badge I gave you, you can gather Star Pieces too. Once you’ve saved up enough coins, come buy more badges at my shop, alright?
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Jikyū Jisoku‑gata Toshihiro Nobuhara This setup is designed to make long, difficult journeys more comfortable. With the Happy‑type and Drain‑type badges, you'll be fine even without towns or recovery blocks nearby. And since you've equipped several Danger and Peril badges, you're safe even when HP or FP gets low. With Speedy Spin, First Attack, and Spin Smash, you can travel long distances safely and quickly. Really, this is quite an impressive build.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Shinpuru‑gata Yūki Katō Simple, but very efficiently put together. With Bump Attack, you can defeat weak enemies without entering battle, and for strong enemies, Mega Jump and Multibounce will do the job. If you know the enemy's HP thanks to Peekaboo, you can attack more effectively. And the fact that you equipped only Peekaboo E, the one that uses my voice, that's a nice touch.
A badge combination from Mario no Badge Jiman Contest. Jump Daisuki‑gata Ai Yamashita Wow, you equipped every jump‑type badge. Jumping really does suit you, big bro. With Fire Shield and Spike Shield, you can stomp any enemy without worry. Just keep jumping and take them down! And with Quick Change, you can switch partners anytime. If you work together with your partners, no enemy will be a problem. But big bro... take me with you on your next adventure, okay?
