Julekonkurranse is a contest held in 2009 by Nintendo of Norway. To participate in the contest, participants had to submit a story depicting how Mario, Princess Peach, Link, Bowser, and Princess Zelda celebrated Christmas together. Participants were allowed to make the story as long or as short as they wanted. Additionally, participants had complete freedom in terms of the story's content. The winner of the contest received a Nintendo game of their choice. Karl-Robert Rønning won the contest and received a copy of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. His story was titled Bowsers Julefeiring.

Bowsers Julefeiring[edit]

An English translation of the story is provided below. The original version of the story uses a rhyming pattern, though this mostly disappears upon translation.

The snow covered trees and road
and all hearts rejoiced.
Peach and Mario prepared for Christmas
with elves and angels down in hiding.
Two dark figures approached.
"Is it them? Oh dear me!"
Peach jumped up and ran toward the door.
"We should have been finished long before."
Mario tried to keep up.
He also wanted to see.
With Christmas lights on hand and foot
he came rushing quickly toward.
Peach screamed; the catastrophe was clear.
The Christmas lights tore along everything that was there.
The tree fell with rumble and crash
and Mario got Christmas decorations in front and back.
"Oh mamma mia!" he shouted.
Peach said: "Mario, you are not for real!"
Then there was a knock on their round door,
and Peach opened with poor mood.
It was the guests Zelda and Link.
She brought them in with a small wave.
Peach apologized for what had been done.
But Zelda said: "We'll fix this quickly."
Zelda took the tree and set it up.
Peach arranged the decorations until everything was top‑notch.
The women worked until the living room was pretty
while Link watched over the plumber.
Soon everything was cleaned up
and they hung a golden mushroom on the treetop.
They looked at the tree and joined in a song.
Now Christmas was finally underway.
Then they heard the sound of propellers in motion.
A voice shouted: "Let me in!"
And there stood Bowser, King Koopa himself.
Everyone got ready for a duel.
Bowser stood with his Goomba team:
"Christmas Eve is the worst day of the year.
When no one wants to celebrate Christmas with me,
then no one else shall enjoy themselves either."
Mario had a Fire Flower ready.
He knew well where this was heading.
Link pulled out his shield and sword,
ready for yet another heroic journey.
But Zelda stepped forward and said:
"Christmas is a day of joy.
Bowser, despite your evil plans,
can you not celebrate Christmas with us?"
Bowser said: "I don’t believe you.
No one wants to celebrate Christmas with me."
"Bowser, we want to see you happy.
At Christmas we are meant to give."
So they all sat around Peach’s table
and thanked for good things on Earth.
Peach served them pinnekjøtt
and Christmas gløgg with raisin and nut.
All five sat and ate and laughed.
Peach heard that the food was good.
With Mario on piano and Zelda on vocals
and Bowser as bass they got beautiful sound.
Then Link shouted: "It is time for gifts!"
He opened and got new Deku sticks.
Peach got a brand‑new pink umbrella
and wanted at once to go out and try to fly.
Zelda unpacked in a flash:
"Exactly the tiara I wished for!"
Mario had hardly words to say.
He had gotten New Super Mario Bros. Wii!
But then the mood took another tone.
Bowser had not gotten any present.
"Thought so," Bowser said so sad.
"There is no one here who cares about me."
Then Peach stood up to say:
"I still have a gift to give."
She went over to Bowser with floating steps
and kissed him on his royal cheek.
Bowser said, while he sobbed a little:
"This is the best gift I have received."
His face blushed and got a new shine,
and a tear ran down his Koopa cheek.
When the evening was over Bowser went away.
He went into the ship and waved in peace.
Then they sang songs and rejoiced greatly,
glad for the good they had done.
