9-Volt no CM Satsuei Report is a gallery-interview hybrid published on the official Japanese website for WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! Within the section, 9-Volt provides behind-the-scenes information on the filming of the commercial, in addition to interviewing both the actors in the commercial and players. The interview is still available online, though it has been removed from 9-Volt's homepage and all of the images have been taken down.
Website description[edit]
- This time, I’m reporting from the set of the Made in Wario commercial shoot! I’ll even show you some behind‑the‑scenes moments, so look forward to it!
Image descriptions[edit]
- The commercial was filmed at a certain location. More than 200 people gathered!
- It felt almost like a mini game‑testing event.
- Each participant entered a special "WarioWare Experience Box" one group at a time and played freely. Everyone looked like they were having a great time!
- The commercial staff were in a separate area, watching the inside of the box through a camera.
- This setup helped the players relax and focus on the game without feeling nervous.
- Even so, the staff were very serious—staring intently at the monitors.
- Here’s the monitor they used.
- They listened to the audio through headphones, but since the players were right nearby inside the box, they could hear reactions like "Ah!" or "Whoa!" directly.
- People were shouting a lot.
- The staff often ended up laughing along with the players' funny reactions.
Interview with the Commercial Staff[edit]
- I interviewed the CM staff!
- --What commercials have you made before?
- Recently, we’ve worked on Pokémon, Metroid Prime, and the Game Boy Advance SP.
- --What’s the main focus of this commercial?
- Capturing the players’ real reactions.
- We felt that genuine reactions would be the most appealing.
- We hope viewers will naturally think, "Oh, that looks fun."
- --What did you think of playing Made in Wario?
- It’s great that it’s easy to pick up and play.
- It’s perfect for people who feel intimidated by full‑scale RPGs.
- --What’s your favorite microgame?
- The one where you stick your finger up a nose, or the one where you make the dog give its paw.
- I also like hitting back the watermelon ball (laughs).
- --Thank you very much!
Interviews with Participants[edit]
- System Engineer, 31
- Comment: "If possible, I'd like to take it home."
- I usually only play games on my phone.
- I used to play Famicom, but once I started working, I didn’t have time, and I get home late, so I can’t really get into long RPGs.
- But with this game, I could play even while waiting for the train, so it’s easy to pick up.
- What’s great is how the microgames appear one after another with no connection at all.
- So if friends come over and we play together, I’m sure the conversation would really take off. You can laugh every five seconds (laughs).
- I'd recommend it to friends by saying, “There’s this weird game you’ve gotta try."
- High School Student, 15
- Comment: "I got too excited."
- High School Student, 14
- Comment: "I couldn’t keep up."
- Iwata:
- I used to play games a lot when I was little, but recently I only play Mario Party when everyone gets together.
- Saeki:
- Same here. But this game was super fun. It ends before you even understand what’s happening because it’s so fast.
- Iwata:
- Right, but that’s what makes it exciting.
- I want to play it with an audience watching.
- Saeki:
- You might need someone to play the "straight man" (laughs).
- Iwata:
- But the person playing ends up doing the tsukkomi too (laughs).
- Saeki:
- You can laugh even playing alone, but with everyone together it’d be even more fun.
- (Titles omitted)
- Unemployed, 67
- Comment: "A game that makes you want to try again and again."
- I don’t usually play games, mostly I just watch my grandchild play.
- At my age, not many people play games, but this one can be enjoyed by kids and seniors alike.
- Even if you don’t understand how to play at first, you gradually figure it out, and it feels great when you succeed by chance.
- Even if you fail, it makes you want to try again.
- It would be fun to get good at it and then teach someone who’s never played before: "This is how you do it."
Thank you to all the participants!
