Super Mario Bros. Monogatari, also referred to as simply Mario Bros. Monogatari,[3] is a graphic novel illustrated by Ikuko Bazaki and published by Fuyukisha on June 22, 1989.[1][2] The novel tells a unique story based on Super Mario Bros. 3, and is the first piece of Japanese media to show Luigi's timid nature. The back cover features screenshots of Super Mario Bros. 3.
Fuyukisha also released two guidebooks based on Super Mario Bros. 3: Super Mario Bros. 3 Kanzen Kōshiki Daihyakka and Super Mario Bros. 3 Hisshō Urawaza Daihyakka.
Character listEdit
- Mario: A true carpenter. He is fair with a strong sense of justice. Having defeated Bowser twice in the past, he is the kingdom's hero.
- Princess Peach: The princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. This young girl protects the kingdom and is also brave. Her lifetime benefactor, Mario, finds her attractive as well.
- Luigi-ōji: The prince of the neighboring kingdom. He is Princess Peach's fiance. He is showy and has great confidence in himself. He is highly prideful, but in reality was actually a coward and weak in battle. Luigi leads the Luigi Gundan, who must be the "strongest," having been in all kinds of circumstances rather than(?) retreating without even fighting once.
- Toads: Unlike the commoner Mario, they come from noble family like the good Luigi-ōji, the princess's fitting husband-to-be.
- Bowser: Having put the entire Mushroom World into the depths of fear and despair, he is the root of all evil. He has a treacherous nature. Mario is disgusted by him.
- Ippa: Bowser's eldest. He is sneaky and dishonest. The bad nature passed down by father Bowser is admirable(?). He is prideful in bullying the weak.
- Nippa: Bowser's only daughter. She doesn't look like the romantic type, but she sees herself as a lady. She longs to be like the Little Prince riding a white horse.
- Zappa: Bowser's third-born. He is the self-proclaimed head of intelligence of the Koopa Troop. He is said to be skilled, but is rather weak. Is he like Luigi-ōji?
- Spike: Bowser's minion. He appears to walk with sport, but does so carelessly, randomly spitting up and throwing balls.
- Bloober: Bowser's minion. He is a squid monster. He is rather powerful, and his nature is not very surprising; he is a henpecked husband.
- Kamitsukiuo: Also Bowser's minion. He is a mean fish with a snapping mouth that is hard to pry off.
- Rōgame: He is approximately 250 years old (as it seems). He is 1 meter and 20 centimeters in length. He is distinct from Bowser's minions, but it is said that he is not even evil.
- Rocky Wrench: Koopa's minion. He is a crew member of a great battleship. He throws hammers to attack. His rides on ships tend to be rough.
