"Ending" (Super Mario Bros.)

"Ending"[1] is a musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario Bros. 3, which plays in the ending cutscene and credits. The theme incorporates an arrangement of "Ending" from Super Mario Bros. before transitioning into an original composition.

The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]

An arrangement of "Ending" plays in the final scene of every episode (except "Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas" and "Reptiles in the Rose Garden") of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. There are two versions of this arrangement, with the difference being more backing instruments and percussion in the first version compared to the second version.

The first version, albeit pitched up by 1 semitone, plays in both "Mind Your Mummy Mommy, Mario" and "The Beauty of Kootie". The second version, which is most commonly used, plays in every other episode (however, in later versions of "Kootie Pie Rocks", it is replaced by the instrumental of "Mega Move").

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario All-Stars[edit]

In Super Mario All-Stars, its re-release, Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, and its Wii port, Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, an arrangement of "Ending" plays after beating the game's remake of Super Mario Bros. 3. The arrangement of "Ending" from Super Mario Bros. that is incorporated into this version of theme is also used for the Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels endings in this game.

Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]

An arrangement of "Ending" similar to the Super Mario Bros. 3 version heard in Super Mario All-Stars can be heard in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. This version is much more compressed than the Super Mario All-Stars version and uses different, lower-quality synthetic instruments. Minus the arrangement of "Ending" from Super Mario Bros., the theme is replaced by a different credits theme after every level has been cleared.

Itadaki Street DS[edit]

In Itadaki Street DS, an arrangement of "Ending" titled 「エンディング」 (Endingu, "Ending") plays during the first half of the staff credits. It is track 22 in the game's sound test.

Mario Kart World[edit]

In Mario Kart World, an arrangement of "Ending" can play in Free Roam and during routes in Grand Prix or VS Race. Its arrangement of "Ending" from Super Mario Bros. plays halfway through the piece rather than at the start.

Other arrangements[edit]

Super Mario World[edit]

The Super Mario World album includes a jazz arrangement of "Ending" composed by Soichi Noriki and performed by the Mario Club Band, titled "Peaceful Kinoko-World".

Mario & Zelda Big Band Live[edit]

The Mario & Zelda Big Band Live concert series featured a son cubano arrangement of "Ending", arranged by Shigeo Nukita and performed by the Big Band of Rouges. This rendition excludes the arrangement of "Ending" from Super Mario Bros., has a slower tempo than the original, and features a unique ending coda.
