HistoryEdit
Super Mario seriesEdit
Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic / Super Mario Bros. 2Edit
Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic marks the first appearance of "Boss BGM." When that game was later redeveloped as Super Mario Bros. 2, the theme was given slightly more enhanced instrumentation, which is the version that subsequent appearances of the theme in the Super Mario franchise are based on. The Super Mario Bros. 2 version is also included in the official albums FAMICOM 20TH ANNIVERSARY GAMEMUSIC DVD, Game Sound Museum: Mario Bros. / Super Mario USA, and Famicom Sound History Series: Mario the Music.
The SNES remake of Super Mario Bros. 2 in Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, and Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, contains its own arrangement of "Boss BGM," which plays during the boss battles like in the original game.
The Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Advance, contains its own arrangement of "Boss BGM," which plays during the boss battles like in the original game. This arrangement plays in a slightly higher pitch, aside from the drums and percussion.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!Edit
Three different arrangements of "Boss BGM" can be heard throughout The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, as the show was primarily based on Super Mario Bros. 2.
Super Smash Bros. seriesEdit
Super Smash Bros. MeleeEdit
In Super Smash Bros. Melee, the original version of "Boss BGM" plays in Mushroom Kingdom II whenever there are 30 seconds left on the timer or during a Sudden Death or Super Sudden Death.
Super Smash Bros. UltimateEdit
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the original version of "Boss BGM" can play in any Super Smash Bros.-series and Super Mario-series stage. It is titled "Boss Theme - Super Mario Bros. 2" in the game's Sound Test.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!Edit
In Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, an arrangement of "Boss BGM" plays during the boss battle against Donkey Kong in Coaster Hills.
