"Piranha Plant Slide"[1] (known as "Piranha Plant Pipeway" in PAL regions) is a musical theme in Mario Kart 7, where it plays in the race course of the same name. This theme quotes "Ground BGM" and "Underground BGM" from Super Mario Bros., reflecting the course's appearance, which is also based on the game. This theme also quotes the "Coin" sound effect in the intro.

Mario Kart 7[edit]

Mario Kart 7 marks the first appearance of "Piranha Plant Slide". A muted arrangement of the theme plays in the underwater section of the course. It is titled "Piranha Plant Slide (Underwater)" and "Piranha Plant Pipeway (Underwater)" in the Nintendo Music app, depending on the region. For both themes, a looping drum set beat is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place.

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]

“Compared to this course's Mario Kart 7 incarnation, the amount of water flowing up and the size of the pipes have really been scaled up, and so even though it retains the 8-bit atmosphere, it's become a really dramatic course. We wanted to reflect this in the background music by making it more sweeping in scale and arranging it more dynamically.”

In Mario Kart 8 and the Nintendo Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, an arrangement of "Piranha Plant Slide" arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu plays in 3DS Piranha Plant Slide. It is titled "3DS Piranha Plant Slide" or "3DS Piranha Plant Pipeway" in the Nintendo Music app, depending on region; the latter name, which is the course's European name, is used in the official Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack album, as it was only released in Europe, Japan, and Australia. A looping drum set beat is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place. The underwater version from Mario Kart 7 is omitted, with the full arrangement instead playing throughout the entire course.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit[edit]

In Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, the Mario Kart 8 arrangement of "Piranha Plant Slide" plays in Crafty Tropics.

Mario Kart Tour[edit]

In Mario Kart Tour, the source-quality version of "Piranha Plant Slide" plays in 3DS Piranha Plant Slide, which was first added in the Piranha Plant Tour. As with Mario Kart 7, the source-quality version of "Piranha Plant Slide (Underwater)" plays in the underwater section of the course.

Mario Kart World[edit]

In Mario Kart World, a jazz-funk arrangement of "Piranha Plant Slide" can play in Free Roam during the day, on the route from Choco Mountain to Toad's Factory in the Lightning Cup, and on any VS Race route. It is fully titled "Piranha Plant Slide (Mario Kart 7)" and "Piranha Plant Pipeway (Mario Kart 7)" in the Nintendo Music app, depending on the region.
