A Spin Turn (or spin turn),[1] originally hyphenated as Spin-Turn,[2] is a driving mechanic that debuts in Mario Kart 64 and returns in all later games of the Mario Kart series. When the accelerate and brake buttons are pressed while a kart, bike, or ATV is at a standstill, the vehicle can pivot around, creating very precise maneuvers. While spin-turning is not a common tactic to use while racing, in nonlinear arenas such as those used in the Battle mode, it is used to quickly change directions and aim items better.

In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, a Spin Turn is performed by holding L Button, R Button, and A Button and turning while at a standstill.

In Mario Kart Wii only, a Mini-Turbo can be activated by using Spin Turns.
