Mercedes-Benz × Mario Kart 8 is one of three downloadable content packs available for Mario Kart 8, the others being The Legend of Zelda × Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing × Mario Kart 8. It was released on August 27, 2014.[1] Unlike the other two downloadable content packs, this pack can be downloaded for free and consists entirely of vehicle parts. These vehicle parts are part of the base content of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, in which they each require coins to be unlocked. The pack was created as part of a cross-promotion between Nintendo and Mercedes-Benz for Mario Kart 8 and the GLA in Japan.[2]

Contents[edit]

The Mercedes-Benz × Mario Kart 8 pack contains three new karts and one new set of tires, all of which are modeled after actual products manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. Unlike The Legend of Zelda × Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing × Mario Kart 8, no new playable characters, cups, courses, bikes, ATVs, or gliders are included in the pack. All three of the vehicles contain unique engine sound noises, while only the GLA changes color in correspondence with the character driving. Unique to this pack is a small icon of the Mercedes-Benz logo that appears to the bottom right of each kart part image when the player is in the process of selecting kart parts before a race.
