Mario Kart 8 Champions of San Diego was a series of global[1]:1:32 online Mario Kart 8 tournaments held daily by Nintendo of America from July 24 through July 27, 2014 in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con 2014. The tournaments saw players from around the world competing against the winner of a Mario Kart 8 competition that was held locally at the Nintendo Gaming Lounge, a dedicated space within the Comic-Con event.[2] This series of online tournaments doubled as the second weekend challenge of the 2014 edition of Camp Miiverse, whose stated objective was to rank high and potentially overcome the San Diego Comic-Con champion,[3][4] who went by "SD Champ" in-game,[4] in any of the tournaments.
