"Staff Credits",[1] also known as "Victory Lap"[2] or "Staff roll",[sic][3] is a musical theme in Mario Kart 64 composed by Kenta Nagata, where it plays during the staff credits.
The majority of the theme features a 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif played on a piano, which has since become a recurring motif in the Mario Kart series. It also incorporates several loose quotes of "Mario Kart 64 Title Screen" and "Rainbow Road" from the same game on an electric guitar. The bassline is also based on the latter theme's.

Mario Kart 64 marks the first appearance of "Staff Credits". It is also included in the official soundtrack albums Mario Kart 64 Race Tracks, Mario Kart 64 Original Soundtrack, and Mario Kart 64: Greatest Hits Soundtrack.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!![edit]
In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, the theme that plays during the staff credits quotes the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif in the first section.

Mario Kart DS[edit]

In Mario Kart DS, the second half of the credits theme when beating the Mirror Special Cup or Lightning Cup in first place quotes the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif twice.
Mario Kart 7[edit]

In Mario Kart 7, the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif is incorporated into several themes, with a unique rhythm that would go on to be used in later arrangements of the theme.
The theme that plays in the single-player menu, titled "Selection Screen" on the Nintendo Music app, incorporates a fast, synth pluck arrangement of the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif. When choosing the game mode, the unique rhythm is used, but when choosing a character, the motif is played on every eighth note.
The theme that played in the Local Multiplayer menu, titled "Selection Screen (Wireless)" on the Nintendo Music app, is similar to the first variation of "Selection Screen", but has the bass taken out and the cymbal reduced to a note every two beats.
The theme that plays when spectating players online, likewise titled "Spectating" on the Nintendo Music app, incorporates the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif as its first three notes.
The theme that plays in Rock Rock Mountain, likewise titled "Rock Rock Mountain" on the Nintendo Music app, quotes the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif in the last section.
The theme that plays in Rainbow Road, likewise titled "Rainbow Road" on the Nintendo Music app, quotes the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif throughout the first halves of the first and second sections. The motif is played on a backing synth pluck and every eighth note, similarly to "Selection Screen". The theme also incorporates another brief arrangement in the last section that retains the unique rhythm, similar to the one in "Rock Rock Mountain".

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]
Mario Kart 8 and its Nintendo Switch port, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, feature four arrangements of "Staff Credits".
The theme that plays during the cutscene reviewing the races and players' placements after each Grand Prix, titled "Current Standings" on the Nintendo Music app, quotes the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif in the key of A-flat major on some strings. It was arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu.
The theme that plays in the final results screen when placing first, second or third, titled "Trophy Theme A" on the Nintendo Music app similarly quotes the motif in G-sharp major. It was arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu.
A loose arrangement of the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif, adapted to 7̂-3̂-3̂-3̂ and once again in A-flat major, plays in the same screen when tying or placing fourth or below, titled "Trophy Theme B" on the Nintendo Music app. It is twenty bars long, divided into five sections; the motif is played in the first four, with some transposition on the second and fourth. It was arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu.
Exclusively in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Music menu, switching between the base game, Battle, and Booster Course Pass courses plays the first three notes of the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif.

Mario Kart World features four arrangements of "Staff Credits".
Much like in Mario Kart 8, both themes that play after each Grand Prix cup is cleared and during the trophy screen quotes the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif. The tracks are titled "Victory Lap" and "Trophy Theme" in the Nintendo Music app, respectively.
The theme that plays in the cutscene before unlocking the Special Cup loosely quotes the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif. It is titled "Special Cup Appears" in the Nintendo Music app.
The theme heard after completing Special Cup also quotes the 2̂-1̂-5̂-5̂ motif. It is titled "Victory Lap (Rainbow Road)" in the Nintendo Music app.
