"Selection Screen"[1] is a musical theme in Mario Kart Wii, where it plays in the Single Player and Multiplayer menus. This theme is dynamic; the instrumentation is built upon with each phase as the player progresses through each menu:

  • The first phase plays in the mode, Controller Registration, Engine Class, Rules menus
  • The second phase plays in the Characters, Vehicles, Check Teams, and Drift menus
  • The third phase plays in the Cups, Courses, Ghosts, and Stages menus.

Mario Kart series[edit]

Mario Kart Wii[edit]

Mario Kart Wii marks the first appearance of "Selection Screen". It is also included in the official Mario Kart Wii Platinum Soundtrack album, which plays each phase in sequence.

Mario Kart 7[edit]

In Mario Kart 7, an arrangement of "Selection Screen" plays in the game's Single Player menu. It uses an altered chord progression, but the general motif is the same, which has been transposed to a higher key. Like in Mario Kart Wii, this arrangement dynamically builds upon its instrumentation as the player progresses through the menu:

  • The first phase plays in the mode and engine class selection menus
  • The second phase plays in the character and vehicle selection menus
  • The third phase plays in the cup and course selection menus.

Another arrangement of "Selection Screen" plays in the game's Download Play menu. The chord progression has been altered more heavily than in "Selection Screen", and uses a bass similar to the one commonly used in Mario Kart DS' soundtrack.

Other appearances[edit]

Super Nintendo World[edit]

At the Super Nintendo World theme park, the loading area of Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge features an arrangement of "Selection Screen". Much like in the Mario Kart Wii Platinum Soundtrack, it plays each phase in sequence, looping back to the first phase after the third.
