A Balloon Baby Yoshi is a magenta-colored Baby Yoshi appearing in New Super Mario Bros. U. It allows the player to reach higher places by inflating like a balloon when the player shakes Wii Remote or presses the ZR Button button on GamePad. In New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, the player needs to press the R Button button to inflate it. Balloon Baby Yoshis can inflate to a maximum of seven times, and they deflate afterwards or when the player lands. Other players can grab on to the player with the Baby Yoshi in the same way players can lift one another and can also be carried into the air. A Balloon Baby Yoshi also adds a chorus to the current music, one he himself creates. In the credits sequence for the game, Balloon Baby Yoshis can be seen in the background, and at the end of the credits, they can be seen alongside Bubble Baby Yoshis and Glowing Baby Yoshis.

Only one Balloon Baby Yoshi appears in Super Mario-kun, where it bites Mario with sharp/properly brushed fangs, causing blood, even though Yoshis lack teeth.

Names in other languages[edit]

The contemporaneous name for each language is listed first. Subsequent names are listed in chronological order for each language, from oldest to newest, and have the media with which they are associated in the "Notes" column. Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.

  • In the activity book Super Mario Sound Picture Book, the red Baby Yoshi that is shown alongside the blue and yellow Baby Yoshis appears magenta, predating this coloration many years before the release of New Super Mario Bros. U.
