Mother Yoshi is Yoshi's mother, who appears in Super Mario World! Yoshi no Tamago of the Super Mario Kodansha manga. She is a pink Yoshi wearing a striped apron and a polka-dotted headscarf, she is also very emotional.
In Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World 6, in one of the 4-koma, Princess Peach and Mario try to comfort Yoshi by dressing up as his parents, but he asks them to stop.
The actual mother appears one volume later. Missing his mother, Yoshi receives one day a bottled message from her, stranded on an island located South from Yoshi's Island, not noticing she is not asking for her and her eggs to be rescued but saved from a constant bombing rain. The rain is the work of Magikoopa and his Kame Slugger, raining explosive enemies to avenge the presumed death of Bowser (who was actually kept hostage in Yossy's Pizza). Yoshi, his friends, and a chained up Bowser, go rescue her. Scared for her life, Mother Yoshi initially refuses to get out of hiding, especially her bombing rain broke her eggs, until she sees her son floating like a balloon and getting shot by Magikoopa. Sandwiching the enemies between the eggshells, Mario and friends mange to resurrect one by one her kids. Bowser then tricks her into freeing him, lying to be Yoshi's best friend, and kidnaps her once freed.
In the next chapters, the heroes go on a sailing journey to save her, discovering that Bowser's plan involves forcing her to warm the Devil Yoshi's egg and then ordering it to destroy Mario and replace him as the franchise's icon. As a hostage, Mother Yoshi first helps in the resurrection of Yoshi by summoning a star, granting him wings when resurrected, then explains the legend of the Devil Yoshi. When forced to lay on the egg, the Koopalings use her younger kids as hostage to force her, but she immediately gets up after Mario and friends save them, but by then it is too late and the Devil Yoshi hatches, but is neutralized by Star Yoshi, who later brings his friend, his mother, and siblings to Dinosaur Land.
By the end of the volume, Mother Yoshi has twelve kids: Yoshi, seven Baby Yoshis, and four Winged Yoshis.
