"We Are Born to Play" is a song composed by Swedish electronic duo Galantis with vocals provided by English singer-songwriter Charli XCX. Nintendo released an official music video for the song promoting Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan; the official upload on YouTube has since been removed from public viewing.
Composition[edit]
"We Are Born to Play" is an EDM and hyperpop song[1][2] that combines modern synth-pop with 8-bit music.[3] Written in the key of D minor, the song is set in time signature of common time with a tempo of 127 beats per minute. Constructed in a verse-pre-chorus-chorus form, it has drops during the first two choruses and a bridge before the final chorus. Charli XCX sings in her mid-to-upper pop register, while Charles Martinet, as Mario, utters one of his catchphrases, "Here we go!", twice throughout the song.
It starts with an interpolation of the first six notes from the "Ground BGM" from Super Mario Bros., while the "Ground BGM" from Super Mario World is featured in the first two choruses. Sound effects from the series, such as that of when a ? Block is hit and a Warp Pipe is entered, are also heard.
