Snakes jars[1] appear as recurring obstacles in the Mario Kart series, more specifically at Shy Guy Bazaar. They are jars each with a snake controlling it from inside. Like Cobrats found in jars in Super Mario Bros. 2, snake jars are inspired by the Arabian culture and snake charming.

History[edit]

Mario Kart 7[edit]

Snake jars make their debut in Mario Kart 7, where one appears near the gliding zone of Shy Guy Bazaar. It stands still alongside other jars, camouflaging with them; occasionally, a snake from inside pokes its head out, and the jar moves sideways for a moment before staying still again. Crashing into (or throwing an object at) a snake jar will cause it to break, releasing several snakes, and causing the player character to spin out and lose three coins. After a short moment, another snake jar will fall from the sky, replacing the previous one.

Mario Kart Tour[edit]

Snake jars return in Mario Kart Tour, where in addition to moving sideways, they can also move in circles and may appear in pairs. In addition to Shy Guy Bazaar, snake jars are also present in the course's R, T, and R/T variants.

Mario Kart World[edit]

Snake jars reappear in Mario Kart World within Shy Guy Bazaar. Now, there is only one snake controlling the snake jar, and its appearance has been changed to resemble Cobrats and Hisstocrat's minions. In addition to snake jars being present in Shy Guy Bazaar, they can also be found on routes within this area. When a player or an object collides with a snake jar, the snake controlling it will jump out and disappear.
