Effect | Grants a boost varying based on the food type and unlocks a costume |
Dash Food is the name of various food items that can be consumed in Mario Kart World. Dash Food is obtained by picking up golden fast food bags at Yoshi's drive-throughs and food trucks. When consumed, Dash Food gives the player a small boost, which is dependent on the type of food, and changes the racer's outfit if the racer is not already wearing the outfit. Outfit changes caused by this item unlock costumes for the character the player was controlling if the player did not already unlock it. Outfits the player obtains are based on the food item that was consumed, and food items obtained are based on tracks or surrounding routes the Dash Food was obtained from. Some Dash Foods do not give a character an outfit, instead reverting them back to their normal appearance if they are in an outfit while consuming it. Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, and Baby Rosalina always get the same outfits as each other from a Dash Food, as do Toad and Toadette (with Burger Bud and Soft Server as well as Engineer and Conductor being treated as equivalents).
There are 60 known kinds of Dash Food. These can be divided into 20 groups based on the type of food; there are generally three variants within a group, with the more elaborate variants providing a better boost, but all provide the same outfit. The "snack" group (soft drinks, chocolate bars, and potato chips) consists of nine items that are grouped together by variant rather than kind of food. The "Japanese snack" group (takoyaki, candy apple, and taiyaki) consists of three items that all provide the same level of boost. The only Dash Foods that do not have multiple variants are the Boo Cinema popcorn, the lunchbox, and the three plates of sushi. Unlike other Dash Food items, the three plates of sushi appear as a single item that can be used three times, rotating around the driver like Triple Mushrooms.
When selecting a vehicle, the player can disable the Dash Food transforming the character's costumes. Unlike a Mushroom, Dash Food cannot be used to dodge a Spiny Shell.
List of foodEdit
Note: If a character is not listed in the outfits column, that means they do not receive an outfit from the Dash Food type. If they are wearing an outfit when consuming it, they are instead reverted back to their default appearance.
